Bunnings predicts assisted living and disability could be a $2bn market for the retailer, as the need for toilet safety handles, anti-slip mats and mobility scooters is underwritten by an ageing population, rising disability rates and the National Disability Insurance Scheme..

It has launched an expanded assisted-living range offering more than 2500 products across 16 key categories, but spread throughout the store rather than located in just one aisle.

And to maximise the opportunity for Bunnings and to attract NDIS clients, its assisted-living products will come with special pro-forma invoicing that are key to make claims with the NDIS.

another player moving down and up and all around, pushed hither and thither by index traders and sentiment. Half Yearly was well received ... and the $0.95 per share dividend due to land in shareholder accounts on 01 April. And that's no joke.

Friday's close of $79.56 was an all-time high for WES.

Wesfarmers’ Rob Scott, speaking at the Macquarie Investment Conference.

“Unfortunately, these days politics is a shorter-term game,” .. “But I think we have this unique opportunity for the federal government to lean into some much-needed reform.”

He says business is doing it tough and Australia cannot be prosperous over the long term if the private sector and the economy aren’t growing. “High levels of government spending and stimulus and handouts for people are only going to work for so long.”

What is Wesfarmers doing about [Australia's perceived] complacency problem?

Scott says everything he does is focused on the long term, even if that means putting customers ahead of investors when it comes to things such as price rises at Bunnings and Kmart.

He isn’t trying to reinvent Wesfarmers, but says he feels better about its portfolio and growth options today than he did five or 10 years ago (a period when it was lumped with the lower-growth Coles supermarkets chain).

They priced competitors out of town and lowered their standards in Brisbane. It looks like they're using the same model in the rural areas now. Seen something on Reddit for Woolworths where employees were working back for free to help staff who were behind.

Did you see the old couple in there?

 
We have a mammoth Bunnings here at Midland. I have gotten to know some of the staff on a first name basis. Always have been extremely helpful and I usually come away with what I need. If not its always pretty quickly got in.
 
Bunnings:
A common misconception is that Bunnings are the cheapest..not always..
Was looking at serious shelves brackets for the new shed: for the size i needed, Bunnings were at $40 a pop..so bugger it, i will weld some.
Dropped by mitre 10 as driving past:choice and getting some at 20ish.so
Neither had the silicon grease i needed. Quite often i can not find what i need or not the quantity even after checking website before.
Garage storage shelving pre built solutions were also much more expensive than a Qld company found online.
Still very good service usually.
Just afraid a recent move to car, pets, cleaning product might overextend it a bit but otherwise a very happy WES shareholder

Relatively new here on sunny coast, 6 months or so, similarly pets products and last week for the first time in Maroochydore car stuff...
I used 25y ago to shop at Supercheap auto for what I can now get at Bunnings:
Tools, garden hose etc, etc and now oil and car batteries.
 
"Show and tell" day at Wesfarmers... lots of slides

Its all about earnings growth.

Rob Scott's answer this year is about growth inside the existing portfolio – and particularly those three core units: Bunnings, Kmart and WesCEF.

“We could go out and buy a couple of hundred million dollars of earnings, but it would probably cost a couple of billion dollars, what’s in that for shareholders?”

“Clearly it’s a much better outcome for shareholders if we can create a new business within a business with that incremental earnings, rather than going out and spending a lot of goodwill on something."

WES Wesfarmers Ltd Perhaps i should elevate WES to my No 1pick for the 2025 Yearly Competition.
This well proven company has shown that it can maintain a healthy SP and just keeps increasing the SP, up a healthy $10 odd since the start of the year.
More than happy to have WES in this comp.
