I generally avoid taking part in discussions on this forum because of the block function.

It's completely antithetical to open discussion.

So many people are snowflakes these days, blocking is very popular. Like that if you like, but if it's a two way block, anyone who posts anything which isn't completely bland starts getting blocked and that person is unable to read part of the conversation.

People are heavily polarised these days. You could potentially have two entirely separate discussions on the same thread on the same topic which two separate echo chambers existing with completely different perspectives in each, and no one being able to see the opposite perspective, which is the most valuable one for them to see.

A person can post as much dishonest material as they like and block anyone who calls them out, meaning they can block any criticism of their lies.

It's conceptually terrible, it's sad that people are so feeble that they can't just ignore what they don't like, but to have people removing other people's ability to see what's being discussed is completely pathetic. I'm surprised there's so much support for such a function, I'd be ashamed to support such a thing.
