I just signed up today as a member of Aussie Stock Forums and wanted to introduce myself. Not sure if introductions are compulsory here but thought it might be the polite thing to do anyway.

I carried out quite a bit of trading starting a little more than 5 years ago now but my trading came to a screeching halt about 3 years ago when I decided to delve into the property market and buy two houses, a decision that ate up all my trading capital. I then relocated to the UK and then to Turkey so finding time to get back into trading with everything else going on has been a challenge.

Ive just sold the houses and although I did OK from the property market, based on previous results I feel I can do better out of short to mid-term trading - although I need to remind myself it was a pretty strong bull market back then. They say that the best way to make a small fortune is to start with a big fortune and invest it in the share market. Id like to keep my trading capital intact (definitely neither a big or a small fortune) and so am interested in chatting and swapping ideas with like minded traders and investors.

Having lived in Turkey and lived amongst muslims for over a year now (still in Turkey but returning to Australia in December), I was a little surprised to how much anti-muslim sentiment there appears to be on this forum. I hope this isnt indicative of what Australia has become over the last 3 - 5 years...

Happy Trading!
Carl

Greetings. Welcome and I found your introduction interesting until the bit about anti-muslim. Where exactly is this sentiment? From whom and please provide visual fact in the form of posts to justify this statement. Thankyou and welcome once again.

Hi Carl

Welcome to ASF.
Well done on making money on property. That's commendable.

The best place for you to post is here.

I personally don't think ASF is anti-Muslim or anti-anything for that matter.

The best place for you to post a newbie intro is here
A cut and paste is probably best.

I think there are more anti-newbies than anti-muslim members on this site. It will take years to get any cred here. Plenty of ASX vets on this site that's for sure. So be warned, because I'm still learning myself.

I did actually post another reply to this thread that seems to have gone missing. Interesting...

Thanks GumbyLearner. My posting is in the right place now although this one still appears to be here.

Wysiwyg I was merely expressing surprise at finding such content on a site aimed at trading - it seemed to have very little relevance to anything even remotely connected with making money from financial markets (although Im sure someone could find a tenuous link if they tried). Im not going to spend hours scanning through the site providing evidence of such misdemeanours. You can either take my word for it, search for yourself if you are that interested, or ignore my comments.

There is some great information on this site provided by some very smart people. Im looking forward to tapping into some great resources and perhaps even providing in return with a touch of my own, albeit very limited knowledge.

Cheers,
Carl

Welcome Carl. Remember that sharing is contagious. The more you share, the more others will do so as well.

As to anti-muslim or anti-many other things on this forum... I agree with your observation. It's sad and if I was running this site I would ban those individuals regardless of their contributions otherwise on trading / investing related topics. However, ignoring those threads is easy enough. So don't let the arrogant ones ruin your ASF experience.

Hey Carl

I find its best to mostly ignore the anti/political/topical/religious etc threads, as with all forums there's a diverse spread of opinions and delusions peppered with the odd brilliant observation or conclusion....sometimes it can take a long time to come about but that 1 brilliant post in a hundred can be oh so rewarding.

I think he is talking about this

I just went through that whole thread and the opening poster, in hindsight, should have been stopped right there in my opinion. He is a what we call in Australia "a poop stirrer" and has no connection to any of us. I apologise if this type of person has offended anyone. The message of anti-extremists didn`t quite fit the topic. Sorry.

Welcome Carl, sounds like quite a journey you've had!

Its probably best to just stick to threads about trading, if things offend you, then don't look at them.

Plenty of help and guidance here for your trading, lots of threads to search through.

Good luck
