Good low commission broker, $2k start

Hi guys,

I was about to sign up to interactive brokers, but realised they have a minimum of $10k, I am starting with
Only $2k while I save more.

Can anyone recomend another good broker for US trades with cheap brokerage that will allow a $2k starter amount?

I am with Halifax, but as well as being $13 per trade one way, they also don't allow me to trade some stocks like $APTS that I planned on bying today...

The minimum $US10k can be a mix of cash & shares/assets, as I understand it.
