COL - Coles Group

Thanks
While i like Dan Murphy, i lately prefer to visit First Choice Liquor Market Maroochydore..better pricing and huge choice but not as good as Dan for rare European bottles
my fav. outlet is an IGA ( MTS ) one small has mostly what i want considering it is a small shop/store

i just don't get there much these days

( i hold WOW and COL at no cash risk , and MTS at full cash risk )

IMO MTS is a funny one, it has a great footprint especially in low populated areas, my younger sister owns an IGA in a country town.

How they grow?
Does that matter?
Not if you aren't interested in growth only income.

I've never owned them, bought a ute load of WOW when Adelaide Steam ships sank ($2.40), sold WOW few years ago and bought AFI, still own some COL from the WES demeger and they are still on my hold list, less bloatware than WOW IMO.

i got burnt and shaken out in MTS in earlier years , but bought back in after seeing how some of the franchisees are doing some IGA , a couple of hardwares and a little bottle some ( although the IGA in the next town has a HUGE drive-in bottle-o but i never get to shop there ) , maybe i am wrong again , but MTS seems to have some quality franchisees on board

COL ditto i have about half the demerger from WES allotment ,

WOW i have less than 10% of the inherited holding ( or a one third of the DRP earned in the preceding 13 years of holding ) , they have just so disappointed me ( i sold out of EDV including the freebies as well )

BTW i do hold several LICs and ETFs which include two or three of them in the portfolios

now income from WOW

income from WOW isn't so great unless you bought them near $22 ( or under ) .. FMG has been much better return-wise

and COL probably needs another 2 years before they get themselves settled and we can see if they are a good stand-alone stock

MAYBE i would actually part with some cash if under $15 , but i want to see how they handle the coming two or three years preferably ( they could start hiring dud management as well )

well my holding was a guaranteed winner because WES were nice enough to stash a handful in my portfolio

and WES has doubled in share price since divesting COL to boot !

the fact that COL currently my preferred shopping adventure only makes that sweeter

i would probably need $16 ( or less ) before i threw actual cash into adding to the COL holding

and depending if desperate politicians start bashing the supermarket chains again , that might be sooner rather than in the distant future

Coles yearly report out. All the important metrics up.

up 6% on the open.
Another of the long term term defensive holdings that has been an absolute winner for me.
Up 20% since my first foray.
Mick
now 9 percent up, around $21.64

and Woolworths to report tomorrow.. will it be a tale of two contrasting companies?

Not really raped in either as She Who is never wrong is by me banned from shopping at Coles and She has a huge dislike of Woolworths.
The Spud Shed and occasionally Aldi are shops of choice.
can never buy all i need in one trip at Aldi , so i prefer COL , IGA ( MTS franchisee ) and WOW in that order , with adventures into Aldi and the discount stores ( several in the main town up here ) on rare occasions

and there is only cash on the table in MTS , the large parcel of WOW i inherited whittled down to less than 10% of the original parcel

a nice place to be ( cash-wise ) in the supermarkets .. well maybe i can recover previous losses in MTS in the future , but you just never know ( a take-over could crystallize the current gains about 30% and the cement permanently the previous losses )

but where next from COL ? it is probably still trying to get all it's ducks in line after being released from WES , hopefully they have been learning from the missteps made by WOW
