Hi All,

I'm new to the stock market world. Business as a website designer is slow, so I'm looking for another revenue source. Becoming a day trader for a while feels like the right move to make right now.

I've researched some training companies to get some education before jumping into the market, but on due diligence of these companies, I'm sadly realising that none are worthwhile. Surely the best way to get an education about the market is by sitting down with a day trader and watching them work for three / four days... But who and why would anyone do this with me?

Here is where I'm offering a barter type service.

If you're a day trader around the Sydney area and willing to allow me to watch you trade, and to buy you lunch and a coffee everyday, I'll provide you with any of the following services for free.

  • I'll build you a blog site, register a domain name for you and host the website on my servers free of charge for half a year.
  • I'll teach you almost anything you want to know about software applications.
  • Tune your PC, install my recommended applications (anti-virus, firewalls) which are all free, and teach you how to effectively use them.

...And more. The services I offer in my business range from website design, internet marketing, graphic design, hosting and business printing. I have expert knowledge in all these fields. I'll happily sit down and advise you on any of this if you'll show me the ropes with the market.

Due to business being slow, I'll like to start right away. Also, if you'd like to know more about me, I'll send you the link to my business website, my personal blog, and my social networking pages.

Hope to hear from you,
Cheers
Ayden

Re: Barter: Stock Education for I.T Service

Hi Ayden,

Your offer sounds very good, sadly i can't teach you to day trade, but can i suggest a few things?

It sounds like you are keen to get into trading straight away, this can be a good thing and also a bad thing. 90% of traders fail and sadly most of these are people trying to daytrade without knowing the markets intimately first. Day trading is alot more involved than any other type of trading, and as such a good experience in trading would be reccomended before tackling day trading, especially for a regular income.

I'd like to suggest that you get a bit of knowledge before setting yourself up to learn from a daytrader. Your time with one would be alot better spent if you had a very good general knowledge of trading first.

I hope i havn't sounded too negative. Being a day trader doesn't automatically give you a money tree in the back yard. Its a slow and hard slog to becoming constantly profitable. I also see that you are sturggling with business, the last thing i'd want is for you to jump in without the correct mindset and leave yourself in a worse position than you already are in.

The first thing i'd suggest is tracking down a post from Trembling Hand, and then going and reading his blog. He has some articles written by himself for newcomers to day trading -- he is an honest and genuine no bull**** bloke and he will get you straight to the point when you are reading his blog. He is one of the best traders on this forum and has a great reputation. Do a search for his posts - read them - read his blog - take in everything.

Edit: here is his blog link
http://tremblinghandtrader.typepad.com/
The first article is on the bottom of the first page, the next one is on the next page.

I'll leave you with an analogy

Starting from nothing and being new to the market to becoming a day trader - Is like someone posting on an AFL forum and asking to play full forward for the cats after 3 days training with the boyz

Take your time - don't rush.

Cheers

Good advice Beamstas.

While you seem like a genuine bloke with a good deal twentytwo, sitting with a day trader for 4 days and being able to pull money from the markets, is about the same chance as me sitting with you for 4 days, and becoming a proficient IT specialist with my own business.

It aint' happening.

Sorry.

Im no expert but i think its a good idea. Obviously you wont become an expert from watching someone for 4 days but i think you would learn alot more in 4 days watching someone who knows what they are doing than what you would learn in 6 months just reading with no hands on experience.

I think your idea of swapping services is a great idea. I would suggest though that you first learn more about trading and the markets and then use the time with someone as more of a mentor/protege relationship, which is the hardest to find.

Thats what i would do, similar to Beamstas suggestion.

Cheers,

Hi All,

Mate to me this sounds like the exact wrong move. Or the exact wrong way to go about it.

You have a skill set that with some extra work and planing and application can see you through the slow time in your business. But instead you are looking at wasting hours and hours (read years) sitting in front of a screen to hopefully learn a whole new game. You cannot "become a daytrader for a while".

Either fix your biz or give it up and move on to something else. That may be daytrading but I doubt that you will make consistent returns for some time. It mostly starts as a hobby of sorts. With a hobby like income at best.

Good luck

You should probably try reading some books first before going about getting some practical experience.
