ALL Killing of Life is SHAMEFULL. KILLING is definately not necessary for survival. It is PURE neglect/disregard of other life forms. Human arrogance of the highest order tantamount to MURDER. Purely for TASTE NOT SURVIVAL.
SPECIESISM Is rampant and condoned among the majority of OUR species. Mass murder for food. The science of judging OTHER animals sentience is FLAWED and COLLUDED to say the least.
If one is not embarressed for his or her role then they need to seriously rerate their own sense of worth among intelligent moral beings.

ants,by that logic even plants then shouldnt be harvested, they are on the ground they live, pull them up they die. By that logic there would be no living things on the planet.Animals are there for food, our responsibility lies on not making them suffer, because that then impacts on the kind of people we are. Thats what I think anyway.

Impressive collection of words, lets not forget that Homo Sapiens is regarded as one of the omnivores.

All we need to do is clean up on the edges, make it more humane and even have a look at alternative ways to grow food.

Latest heart cells ticking in a box might be the way.
Similar to hydroponic lettuce and with bit of ingenuity, meat can grow until needed.

cant see anything wrong with killing the whales as long as they dont go back to the days of near extinction. i have eaten whale when i lived in japan for 5 years. tastes great. can see why the japs love it. it was a school staple for many years particularly after ww2 when food was scarce. you can buy it in super markets, restaurants and fish markets. japs dont care what the rest of the world care. average jap would think we are kind of strange to even comment on it. i think there are more terrible things happening in the world than some japs eating a bit of whale washed down with a bit of sake. i realize a lot of people would not agree with this.

Yea, some eat: snails, snakes, guinea pigs, frogs, dogs, horses, pigeons, at the same time when some are disgusted with the practise.

Some eat rats, but during Beijing Olympic Games, rat-serving restaurants will be closed or will not serve rat meat due to possible negative publicity.

Gees where do I start. Not enough time. Ill be short.
    1. Plants- animals. Different WAY different. (though some religions even pray for taking a plants life for food).
Im sure they would beg to differ. Are we there for food? Would you eat your brother?

There was this doco on SBS while back about all this japanese whaling saga from which i remember few things:

    1. Japanese do not really need or eat the whale meat all too much - average punter on the street apparently ate it perhaps once / two times in his life, some never.

    2. For Japan its a matter of national pride as they will not listen to anyone telling them to discontinue their traditional right (as they feel whaling is their traditional right). After all, as the interviewed Japanese official put it, whats left of a nation that lost its pride?

The world is in symbosis. Take something away and it effects something else. This has occurred throughout the earths evolution. New species are created every day and old species die.

What we need to do is not make so much of an IMPACT that we put the earth out of kilter. Apparantly the earth can sustain 3 billion humans (read on a tree hugging site so may not be reliable). I think we are a few over that now which could be a concern for the sustainability of the earth. At the same time, the earh can't sustain too much of other species as well. Perhaps that's why the dinasaurs left us...

My point is, perhaps it's natural for us to be consuming part of the earth as part of the natural course of survival and evolution of the planet, but we shouldn't be consuming so much as to destroy it.

I am an animal lover however, because I am in wonder of all things nature, but you can not go by the facts that we are just a part of the food chain.

I don't think whales need to be part of our food chain.

My grandad was a whaler in NZ....I think things must have been different back then....
I was a fisherman for about 5 years...now to say killing fish is shameful I find that ridiculous...it's just a part of life....personally I've killed thousands and thousands of fish....it was just a job...I just hope buddha aint right cause my karmic soul will be ruined
I find the world crazy how we become desensitsed to some things and overly sensitised to others....and I always found it strange that when I tell new age people that I think dolphins are as smart as dogs they take offence to it...why is that???
On the subject of whaling...if it was done responsibly I would'nt have a problem with it :2twocents

I agree with most of your statment Kennas... the Earth is carrying ALOT of people. And all of the technology that we have implemented to sustain us (farming techniques, collecting more water etc) have come at a bit of a enviromental price. And for all the talk on GLobal warming, saving the Whales, and saving the last 100 acres of the Amazon Bason- I feel that population growth has remained unrecognised as a threat to the planet.

Anyhow- I'm off the point... sorry. Whaling. I don't think I'm that adverse to the idea if it were done sustainably (~5% of their population/each year) I don't understand why we prioritize the saving of some species over others- just based on their "cuteness". But I don't imagine sustainablity is reall yon the forefront of the Japanese economy... whose concern for the environment is akin to te catholics concern for population growth!

Costello;s policy of promoting larger families is foolish! The best thing you can do for Australia's/the worlds future is have 2 (or less) children...
Just my opinions... (but their right!!)

Ah no offence, but what do you feed your pets?

I love fishing. It's great fun, and what I don't need to eat i throw back.

No but some people did or do,very few but some still eat their brother.

Also going by your logic we would have to rely totally on plants for our food, what would happen should one year the crops failed, people would die in their millions, ask an Irishman, what happened during the famine, their potatoes failed, they starved.Mass migration!Where would we go in this day and age?

Your statement beggars more study on the subject.
It takes WAY more grain to feed the livestock than if we were to just eat/store the grain itself.
Look I'll cut a long and interesting discussion short. It boils down to whether you give a **** or not about other beings BOTTOM LINE. If you take that seriously, you wont eat other beings.
Maybe we could sail to Japan and trap a few :D
