I was looking for a better seat but it seems that the doors have slammed shut and the train promptly departed at 10am this morning and I wasn't on it.

Guess I'd better find another train then.......

ASX 100 biggest mover today is Virgin Money

UK election.
Current prime minister, Boris Johnson, looks set to win the UK election by a significant margin today. This means that the UK is likely to leave the EU at the end of January.

This news has gone down well with shares exposed to the UK market including Virgin Money which is surging higher.

Price has re settled after the rush of blood post election, however with the U.K rid of the monkey on its back, I think the pound stirling will strengthen against the $Aus. Also there should be a settling in the U.K economy over 2020, that should result in a drop in unemployment and an increase in exports, as the constraints imposed by the EU are lifted.
So I expect a price and dividend increase from VUK, time will tell.

Read something positive about Virgin Money in the AFR,a few days ago.Completely slipped my mind now, though! Hopeless.
Well I've taken my profit, now hopefully wait for an opportunity to re enter, with the U.K entering a second lockdown I can't see volatility reducing.

I don't hold

VUK sellers outnumber buyers 2 : 1. Maybe that partly explains S.P drifting a bit .
One does get tempted to wade into this , but I'll wait for now.
U.K. inflation said be easing a bit. Does that auger well for renewed prosperity in that , once great Britain?
Doesn't look like it , somehow.( Aren't you glad you don't have to live there ? ) Boris old mate , what a mess you and your Tory brexiteers have left behind .

i bought this as CYBG after the NAB spin-off and recently sold ( completely ) to help fund another project

i am increasingly pessimistic on the EU and UK in general and most of the bigger banks ( in the major nations )

i suppose i should look at my HVN exposure and cull my UK/EU riski almost completely

a key risk to VUK is Richard Branston as the UK banking sector absolutely hate Richard , and i suspect would be very likely to break him if they can ( i give Richard a break because he gave The Sex Pistols a break )

The U.K sounds as though it is moving along O.K, as with Europe though, there are strong headwinds.

The UK economy will grow faster than Germany this year and avoid a recession, the International Monetary Fund said, after sharply upgrading its forecast on the back of strong household spending and better relations with the European Union.

Falling energy prices will also help Britain expand 0.4% this year, the IMF said on Tuesday in its regular health check on the UK economy. That’s up from the 0.3% contraction the fund projected just last month, and which will lift the UK off the bottom of the Group of Seven league table.

beating Germany who had it's main gas line ( and two pipelines set to go online ) blown up isn't any major achievement

maybe if somebody blew up the North Sea gas pipelines ( to the UK ) it might be a fair comparison

Britain's issues are all self-inflicted

We will see when we join a free and open pact with India, where their workers can come in without a visa.
Then we will see if the working class want a ausexit. Lol

am not so sure the Indians will flock to Australia ( more than are already here on student visas )

and not so sure many Australians will do more than visit India ( probably to do business deals )

Bollywood might snap up some of the unemployed artists and musicians ( and actors ) but India can land probes on Mars am not seeing a compulsion to migrate to Australia with the skills Australia needs ( apart from willingness to work cheap )
