The kid who king hit Thomas Kelly and assaulted 4 others has just been sentenced to 4 years minimum. As a 19 year old who goes to kings cross every now and then, this is a disgrace! He should have gotten heaps more and made an example of. Maybe I'm being harsh but to know that this kid just went and king hit some random, killed him and only gets 4 years blows my mind. What are your thoughts?

Simple shake up the Judiciary the same as Campbell Newman has.
If the Judiciary don't represent the publics expectations then it is the Governments job to do something about it.:xyxthumbs

    4 years - what a judicial joke.

    Not even close to justice.

So a life is worth 4years - pretty cheap.

It does seem to be on the low side. I would have thought 8-10 years.

Murder is harder to prove than manslaughter. The DPP probably didn't think murder would have stuck which would have meant the guy walked. The maximum sentence for manslaughter is the same as murder.

    Thanks for the link Tink.

I signed up and also emailed my disgust etc to my local MP.

    Hi!

I just signed the petition "The Premier of NSW - The Hon. Barry O'Farrell MP: Minimum sentencing laws in cases of Manslaughter" on Change.org.

It's important. Will you sign it too? Here's the link:

    Thanks!

    You are welcome, dutchie.

There has been an uproar in the public with these cases and this is one too many with lenient sentences when it comes to law abiding citizens just walking the streets.

Blaming alcohol and upbringing and whatever else after already being on a good behavior bond for injury to someone else, doesnt cut it.
    Bring in the parents too

    The public have had enough.

thanks for the link. just signed it. Did anyone watch the 60 minutes report on it? The kid had just a few months before he king hit Thomas Kelly been caught glassing someone! If the judicial system wasnt soft this whole thing could have been avoided. Not to mention his previous history of assaults at a young age. The kid is scum. 4 years looks even more soft now considering his history

Must we take things into our own hands ?
The judiciary, that protected species of bewigged fools is putting our lives at risk every day releasing dangerous people back on the streets and administering pathetic justice at great public expense.

Well I am glad to see that the judiciary recieved a battering from this case.
All the work that the police do should also come into account.
Making deals and all this other garbage for repeat offenders should not be happening.
The law is there and they need to use it.

This public outrage hopefully brings change throughout the country.

Wow the minimum sentence has been increased to 7 years on appeal.

All parents can now rest easy as the price of their sons/ daughters life is now worth 7 years.

    Still manifestly inadequate !!!!

What is even worse, is after losing their child, they had to appeal for a stronger sentence, and go through more heartache.

    DISGUSTING!!!!!

They should NOT have to go through that.

There needs to be changes made in our system.
