Hi all,

Hope everyone is happy and healthy. Tonight I just had a time to toy around with my smoothing method. You can call this indicator smooth McD, Stochastic momentum or whichever you like .

I can see the potential of the second smoothing method that produce less noise noise than the first one

So, NAB buy or sell?

I guess you're saying BUY!

Sean, this is not a buy or sell recommendation. In saying this, even on the Stock pick with my actual system that have buy and sell signal I always put a disclaimer. you can see some of my post that I displayed and they are part or were part of my portfolio.

The indicator aims to smooth a short sell system deployment that I have just recently coded.

You have a great weekend and don't think too much

Today is my day off and I had a chance to look at this forum and scribble a bit of the thread. I guess there is nothing new in trading. One system is similar to each other. difference may be from the entry style and major ingredients

Fundamental : Trade the whole basket ASX (TLSE: Trade Long Short Equity)
Trade Type: Long Side Only (Short side is underdevelopment)
Timeframe : Complex Weekly ( Just a name nothing so difficult)
Status : In the market
Components
* Similar to Linear Regression Trend indicator with minimum excess
*Simplified Keltner with second degree smoothing
*Only trade a high turnover stock
* A bit of volatility
* Simple trail stop exit
* Trigger is " A new high" Similar to CAM from Barbara Star( that's why I was asking a few people regarding this thing) with a wild twist
* Entry Style: Semi BO (this is because of the component that construct the trigger)

Key to look out in developing TS

1. thickness of the equity curve. this represents the frequency (fully invested funds or not) and the trading style ( swing or day trade). if the trade is frequent but the equity curve is flop then I would say a testing system only
2. ignore the 6 digit figure. Look at consecutive win loss and average win loss comparison. can I accept this?
3. put in indicator builder and have a feel for my own creation. See if the system is way too late or way too early in trade or signal appears at unwanted location. That's how I can avoid a curve fit system
4. Asset class Assumption. The more limitation the weaker my system

optimisation :? yes after reading a few articles I am keen to add my own custom ADX. We will see tonight

I assume profit are reinvested for duch a curve.was going to adk your backtest period..and the graph ended up loading..giving me the answer
Assume you use platinum Norgate or similar to include delisted codes,?

*the first DMI is the original version
*by the look at it second version DMI fail to met the requirement
*the third one is better. When PDI>MDI and ADX is bigger 30 and current >Yeterday?

Let me sink down a bit with a cup of coffee and we continue with this. hopefully the trigger lands at an ideal spot and timeframe so that our exposure is a lot less inside the market

Cheers :)

Hi @bettamania
Might I suggest that you have a browse through the @Skate Forum "Dump it Here"...
Skate has the knowledge that may help you..

A lot of us have tried to perfect a Trading System, most people have failed...

Suggestions from me would be - Do Not Smooth any Indicators - refer to the attached snapshot..
Page 048 Smoothing.JPG

The next snapshot sets out my Rules for the "DMI Indicator (ADXR, D+ & D-)"....
.DMI - Basic Rules for the DMI Indicator v24.8.3 20250227.png
CSL Cht 20250227.png

Good luck with your experimenting..
There are probably other clues you may gain from my Forum "DrBourse TA Help for Beginners"....

Cheers...

First of all, thank you very much for your suggestion and mainly for ADX trigger point. This is a valuable input for me.

Secondly, as with Skate's stuff I need to put it aside his thing. As the name implied "dumpys". As with your post, I haven't got time to have a look, but I will.

Third, your smoothing method kinda reminds me of Perry Kaufman method that truly smooth the surface for the eye sight lokoing purpose only but eventually in reality his method has been creating a serious lag. nothing is wrong but I am not using that kind of smoothing method. While it is true not all TS is fit for "smooth" indicator, but I find my Trend Following Systems response greatly toward fast response indicator. The smoothness must be a quality quick and not a serious lag or an overshoot. Subsequestly, I will post my own dip buy and spike sell that I haven't activate for so many years. This part I will be discussing why it is so important to have a lag

Forth, Since you use CSL as a comparison I have made this clear what I meant by quality. Compare and Contrast ( just another exam style question :) )

Finally, Just out of interest Dr....? where and how did you get your doctorate degree? Just joking Mista I hope after this you won't hate me after this post.

I stumble across an article regarding dip buy and spike sell today and manage to create 4 variations 2 dip buys and 2 spike sells. By the look at it this require some assistant from OBOS indicators

Below are my understanding for Ehler's super smoother filter (the green color top part) pic no 2 is an original calculation

I hope everybody is good during this market correction. The best part during this period is ; there is not many talking heads crapping around bragging a mediocre stuff

Have a good night

Cheers

now over my lifetime i , i have picked up some interesting knowledge gems , including

if is stupid and it works ... it ain't stupid
in this case you could substitute the first 's' word for simple , and the gem still works fine

now since you are relying on a big volume spike as alert signal you might then investigate WHO is buying ( or selling )

folks seem to love BIG instos buying ( and HATE directors/founders selling ) however that can be over-simplistic , SOME instos ( openly ) admit to lending out the shares for extra profits ( usually to short-sellers ) so keeping an eye on a stocks 'short positions ' might give you an extra edge , and SOME directors sell to conservative thinking investors that will hold them tightly

tiny edges to be sure , but if you can reduce bad outcomes .... for instance if i see Norges buying into a company .. i now stand well back and WATCH ( closely ) are they lending shares , building a position because a take-over is in the wind ( and they sell a block-trade into the take-over ) or what

yeah you expect that out of MQG ( i hold ) but a sovereign wealth fund !?!?

divs4ever,

those indicators that I post are the one I recently completed from my translation project. Still got abundant from my arsenal. Some I got them from e-book/pdf file, others from other trading platforms( this is the most head ache) the others are from my own creation. Hopefully if I don't get stuck on daily basis I will post one

Been watching with interest.
Having traded (Still do) and developed a few systems, I commend you for getting involved.
I can see a lot of frustration and heartache developing a system around Oscillators.
particularly when looking at charts and seeing " Öh that worked/s perfectly".

I don't want to get involved dissecting bits and playing around but just want to point out
that I guarantee you won't be able to replicate your systems test results.

The best thing is for you to find out why as you go.
For heavens sake please forward test and paper trade for a while until you see what I mean.

you expect that out of MQG
So , you've noticed them at it , too Mr. Divs !
Whenever I see our little friends here , on a significant shareholder announcement , I tell myself " Ha , this won't last long "
Sure enough , they are out again in no time . Recently , it was only for a few days , then out ( at a loss ? ) . They are weird .

Indeed Tech, I will get involved with TS development. As a positive and a like minded person, whoever got trading system and wants to develop it as a community based system, they are welcome. If I "believe the system is making sense and not many limitations" I am more than happy to help out and in fact, I might throw a few of my indicators selection that align with that TS. But as a code ethic, whoever just come over and try to brag in front of me about syntax and platform then it is better to look away. that is the same way saying "show me yours and I hide mine? " :) . I am not keen with that; especially for those who just want to know my parameters or even my TS. My TS' had been traded many years ago and I stop it as I got a bit of obligations. Soon after finish my financial obligations , and with a mind set "the market is always be there"; I am back in the business

This is a forum where everybody can express their mind. Since I am just a "simple person" and I am aware that this forum is crowded by many experts; I welcome everyone who wish to decompile my system but from (what angle)?. Talking about the trade discrepancy, obviously with 3 of my systems for only 1/3 pool of funds so I can only do cherry picking but again that cherry picking result can be seen on my stock selection

And finally, I respect you as you share your system and I have taken your advise that's the reason I hold my horse on my short and mean reversal systems
