What is the most practical/cost effective way to receive an overseas pension? I make the query because I am very aware of how banks uses internal charges and very poor exchange rates to skim big fees off any transfer I make overseas. Does this also happen in the above situation ?

Have it deposited into a bank account at home that has no foreign transaction fees.

If you were an Australian you might use an account such as a Citibank Plus account which comes with a debit card that has no overseas ATM fees or foreign transaction fees. There are some overseas ATMs that have transaction fees but they are merely passed along by Citibank. There are none from Citibank's side. This is the best Australian option I have found.
