LYC - Lynas Rare Earths

A few Rare Earths things did OK today. Yes, news from China that they were going to weaponise rare earths due to the tariffs. I have been saying for a little bit that rare earths will come good once trade with China is affected, for whatever reason. I thought it would be when they attacked Taiwan, so this is a little out of left field. Not sure how much follow through there will be. Not sure how fast the West can create their own supply chain from the ground to the magnet either.
Hi @Sean K

The only place to separate Heavy Rare Earth (HRE) is China, for mine. Used in fighter jets. The rest is all good.

Lynas HRE processing is coming, but it isn't here yet, but hopefully soon. Then watch China squirm and the SP go to Mars :)

EDIT: p7 1/2 yearly report 26/02/25:
As announced on 27 June 2024, Lynas Malaysia is targeting first production of two separate Heavy Rare Earths (HRE) products in the 2025 calendar year. Construction of the new Dy-Tb circuit continued with commissioning and ramp up expected in mid-CY2025.

Kind regards

And whether it is to get into, or just ramp up production, a lot of cash will be needed so capital raising, dilution..even if the flavour of the time, not so sure rare earth in a depressed market and recession is such a safe haven.
Not specific to lyc, but including it..

Opened today (10/04/25)

EDIT: Just had peak at Announcements. Aussie Super has increased their stake in LYC from 8.50% to 9.51%.

WEEKLY'S already trending but now it looks likely to make a weekly close above $8 soon. That looks to be a significant level? It's already got past 7.50, which is also significant looking support/resistance. Some nice positive volume last week - I assume related to China tariff retaliation. My subjective target, just as a chart, would definitely be higher.

LYC has always been too inconsistent as an earner for me to onboard it as I'm inclined to hold what I buy. But these seem encouraging times for a rare earths producer because of China becoming an unreliable supplier. Contrarily though, China might persist with a policy of dumping at prices that deliberately destroy margin for non Chinese producers and project developers? Rare Earth monopoly has long been a strategic weapon for them.

LYC quarterly published 28/04/25, of note and most importantly:

During the quarter, Lynas commenced commissioning of the new Heavy Rare Earth separation circuit. A small quantity of Holmium concentrate has been produced by the circuit, and separation of Dysprosium (Dy) has commenced. First production of Dy is expected in May, followed by Terbium (Tb) in June.

This is an exciting development for Lynas and our customers and sets Lynas apart as the only commercial producer of separated Heavy Rare Earth products outside China. In recognition of the importance of these products in supply chain resilience, Lynas has engaged with target customers. Our pricing offer reflects the high demand for these products outside China rather than the market index which is based on inside China transactions.

... We expect it will take some time for customers to reorganise supply chains and agreements, however, this presents an opportunity for a sustained market restructure. Lynas is engaging with direct and indirect customers to develop new sales agreements.

## oh boy this is good news so early in the calender year !!!

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Lynas Rare Earths is eyeing potential purchases of rare earths deposits in Malaysia and Brazil and plans to work with early-stage developers to help bring their mines online, its CEO Amanda Lacaze said on Wednesday.

This is purely speculation and declare I am a shareholder, but something funky is going with the trading of SGQ.

Good morning
Announcement today (16/05/25) - see attached.

  • Lynas achieves first separated Heavy Rare Earths production - confirming first production of Dysprosium Oxide (Dy) at Lynas Malaysia.
  • As announced in the March 2025 Quarterly Report on 28 April 2025, the new Heavy Rare Earth separation circuit was commissioned during the March quarter and first production of Dy was expected in May, followed by Terbium (Tb) in June.
  • Commenting on the first Dy production, Lynas Rare Earths CEO and Managing Director Amanda Lacaze said: “Lynas is pleased to confirm first Dy production on our new production line at Lynas Malaysia. The production of this on spec Dy is a significant step for supply chain resilience and provides customers with the option of sourcing product from an outside China supplier. Lynas is now the world’s only commercial producer of separated Heavy Rare Earth products outside China. ‘’Lynas is uniquely positioned to contribute to and benefit from efforts to diversify and rebuild supply chains, including opportunities for a sustained market restructure. We are engaged with customers in Japan, the United States and Europe regarding Heavy Rare Earths supply,’’ Ms Lacaze added.
  • As noted in the March Quarterly Report, pricing for the new Heavy Rare Earths products is expected to reflect the high demand for these products outside China.
  • A video of first Dy production at Lynas Malaysia is available at this link:

Still a trending chart although it did pull back soon after my last comment. Nonetheless I'll opine that the current retracement might have completed? Chart looks quite good to me.

Unlikely to buy.
This being able to process heavy REEs could be a big deal - they're the rarer ones, they're used in defense and they're the main ones China is using to throttle the west.
It's only fairly priced imo on recent earnings and too much can go wrong with REE processing and the REE market, with China's malign hand in it. No dividends.
