Good evening champions,
rcw1 report card for racing 02/09/23. Having a few more coldies watching beloved Cowboys try and beat the Panthers at Penrith. Not working out to well with Cowboys down 16 nil with 9 to go in the first half. Got coin on the Cowboys.... 80 minute they play for and anything can happen in 80 minutes :) the more rcw1 tells himself that the more rcw1 believes it ha ha ha ha ha

Eagle Farm: five races for 2 x salutes and 2 x places

Morphettville: four races for 1 x salute and 1 x place

Belmont: one race for an also ran

Caulfield: four races for 2 x places and 1 x salute

Randwick four races for no earn whatsoever ):
Out with the old and in with the new by the looks. Nature Strip and Eduardo looked ordinary in the 1000M sprint. Remarque took the lolly in the 7th race with In Secret close behind. Very disappointing punt at Randwick, damn it...
Felt really bad for about 30 seconds ha ha ha ha

Have a very nice Sunday.

Kind regards

The moment came as the field raced up the famous Royal Randwick rise.
Just when Nature Strip was expected to unleash his trademark burst of speed and take control of the Concorde Stakes, he started to struggle.
In trainer Chris Waller's words, the champion's "acceleration or spark wasn't there''.
Nature Strip faded and ran sixth, beaten nearly six lengths by Remarque.
Waller had seen enough. He soon called a press conference and told the world Nature Strip had run his last race.
It was a classy way to announce the champion sprinter's retirement.
An easier decision would have been to keep Nature Strip in training and the sprinter could have still won the odd race, picking up prizemoney here and there.
But no one wants to see a champion struggle, particularly one as good as Nature Strip.
"I'm announcing his retirement on behalf of the owners,'' Waller told the media.
"He's just been an amazing horse and everything he does he does to the best of his ability, even today, he was prepared well, he came to the race sound, he was trialling well.
"Yes, he jumped well, he travelled nicely, he looked to come up the rise well but the same acceleration and spark wasn't there.
"There has been no indication that race ability was not there anymore, but he wasn't the same horse in the race today.
"He's just been such an amazing horse, it's only fitting that we announce it as soon as the decision has been made."

Nature Strip's a nine-year-old gelding and Waller was aware there would be critics questioning the decision to bring the horse back into training.
"Some might ask why did we bring him back for this extra preparation but the simple fact is he's a sound horse, he's a happy horse and that is how he will retire,'' Waller aid.
Rod Lyons, the senior part-owner of Nature Strip, said the ownership group unanimously agreed with Waller's decision.
"It's a sad day, we knew it would come, all champions come to the end of the road,'' Lyons said.
"I told Chris not to cry as I would start crying. I wish he could have won today and gone on.
"But he's been a wonderful horse and taken us to such magnificent heights.
"Who would have dreamt we would ever get a horse like him. To go to Royal Ascot will stay in our memories forever, and also for our kids and our grandkids memories. It's been a joy and pleasure to race this horse.''
Nature Strip retires after 44 starts, winning 22 races including nine at Group 1 level and nearly $21m prizemoney.
But sheer statistics don't tell the full story. At his best, Nature Strip was a world-beater as he proved at Royal Ascot last year when he made a mess of the best sprinters in the northern hemisphere in the King's Stand Stakes.

Nature Strip's win that day was the crowning glory of a magnificent career that also yielded wins in The Everest, three TJ Smith Stakes and two Darley Classics.

"Today, he (Nature Strip) said: ‘Boys, I have taken you around the world, I have done all I can possibly do for you, c'mon give me a break','' Lyons said.

"So, the horse is retired. I won't get another horse like him, not in a million years

"He will retire to Charlie Duckworth's place and do some equestrian work. He will have a great home and a great life, he will be a very happy horse. The important part is this horse retires healthy and sound.''

Lyons wasn't about to let the moment pass without making reference to his late friend, Jack Van Duuren, who was in the ownership group and passed away in May.

"Jack will be looking down on us and think it is about time you retired our horse,'' Lyons said.

"He has retired now and he always said when I retire you should retire the horse and that's what we have done.''

The final word to Waller: "It's been an amazing journey with Nature Strip. To me, he means history, he's a champion.''

@rcw1, what a fitting tribute.

Below is the YouTube video from 'Royal Ascot'
The race starts at the 3:00 minute timestamp. All I can say is that "Nature Strip" was lucky, "lucky he didn't lap the field"

Black Caviar's 22nd triumph at Royal Ascot
This race alone was an extraordinary feat that left spectators in awe. The six-year-old horse, venturing outside Australia for the first time after a grueling 30-hour flight to the UK, showcased her exceptional talent as she effortlessly surged to the front with just two furlongs remaining. The race's conclusion was nothing short of dramatic, leaving an indelible mark on all who witnessed it. Each time you revisit the race, you can't help but grow more appreciative of Black Caviar's greatness.

Timestamp 2:13 minute
However, amidst the breathtaking display, there was a moment of trepidation when jockey Luke Nolen seemed to jeopardise the victory. With just 100 meters to go at the (2:13 timestamp), Black Caviar was switched off, as if coasting towards the finish line. It was a heart-stopping experience, as Black Caviar responded so brilliantly when prompted after seemingly having the "motor turned off" is a rarity, making Black Caviar's performance all the more exceptional.

BLACK CAVIAR wins 22nd race at Royal Ascot
I can honestly say, "I've never seen a horse respond after being turned off", what an absolute champion.

Good evening

Last year’s winner Giga Kick has been ruled out of the $20m The Everest. Clayton Douglas-trained, Giga Kick tore a gluteal muscle in the McEwen Stakes at The Valley on 9 September.

A subsequent veterinary assessment found “insufficient time to have the horse recovered and ready for his spring targets”. “I have arguably the best horse in the country who was set to have a great spring running in races carrying $30 million in prizemoney, but unfortunately he is going to the paddock,’’ Douglas said. “That’s racing."

Big Jimmy McDonald is now without a ride for The Everest after losing both Nature Strip to retirement and Giga Kick to da paddock.

Luv to have been a fly on the wall ...
