Recommended listening. Bit hard to catch live but can download prev 4 weeks audio.

Part of yesterdays broadcast was on environmentalists killing off mining projects in 3rd world which could help lift the locals out of poverty.

Kudos to presenter Michael Duffy and the counterpoint team.

Agree, Mark. It's just so refreshing to find a thoughtful programme like this on Radio National which tends to be right wing rather than the usual ultra left style of, e.g. Phillip Adams.

It's repeated at 2am the following morning for anyone who can't listen during more "normal" hours.

What would be fascinating would be a debate between Duffy and Adams!

The problem is, due to corrupt government, mines in Africa very rarely do anything for the locals.

That's often true. The interesting point of the interview, though, was how misguided some of the "green" groups, like e.g. WFF and Greenpeace, can be in that they are more intent on saving some obscure insect than helping the people avoid starvation.

Yes heard that one, highly amusing. Patrick Cook really is a biting satirist.
