Just thought I'd start a general discussion thread for anything that may be related to Australia at home and abroad.
This has been triggered by an article in The Age where the new Foreign Minister thinks we'd be able to fill a seat as a temporary member of the UN Security Council.
Do we deserve to be up there? Is Australia really that significant?
I mean, we're just a few million ockers kicking back drinking VB, wanting a decent cricket match to unfold?

Foreign Minister Stephen Smith has told the United Nations that Australia has aspirations to be a temporary member of the organisation's Security Council.
He also said Australia believes Japan and India should be permanent members of a reformed council.
If the Olympics are a guide, we certainly do!
