I have two children, a son aged 18 and a daughter aged 16. We all live in Sydney, Australia and have a reasonably good standard of living.
It occurred to me recently that a lot of the things that I have often done in my life have never been, and probably never will be, done by them (and I’m not all that old!). Here are some examples:
They’ve never seen milk in a bottle.
They’ve never wound up a clock.
They’ve never been to a drive-in movie.
They’ve never seen home movies (film, projector, screen, tangles of film on the floor…)
They have never written a letter by hand, folded it up, put it in an envelope, addressed it, put a stamp on it and put it in a post box. I am not sure that they would know how to go about it. It would be an alien concept to them.
What is your experience? Can you think of other common examples for the young kids of our time?
