When i was younger I always use to hear the story of my pops two brothers one 23 (Clarence) and the other 25 (Ronald)going to war and never coming back and both dying in the battle or the evacuation of Crete after the allies evacuation from Greece.
No Body spoke much but you could tell there was a fair bit of pain still felt by the loss when i asked in the early seventies about 26 yrs after the end of world war 2. I did the family tree and am fortunate as my pop Neil McQuienn is still alive at 91 and still walking around and going to get his own newspaper and always growing vegies in the garden. So i have been able as i got older to find out more about his two brothers.
I was able to go and follow the footsteps of their lives and even found that I donot live far from the oval where they had camped and trained after enlisting at Royal Park in Melbourne with the 3rd light horse as gunners.
I notice i have been involved in the aboriginal saga and came to realise that these two guys voluntarily enlisted and died on behalf of all Australians.
I thought to start the thread because I would like to hear from others about relatives who never returned and to put their deceased relatives pictures up and share some stories.
