I know the thread title sounds wacky, and I know there might be few people interested enough to respond, but I'm always hopeful of input on something different.
Most of us take completely for granted our cognitive and thinking processes, but while walking with my dog, I often offset the familiar territory with pondering various questions or doing mental arithmetical calculations.
Usually I just let the thoughts flow, and it's almost a form of meditation, combined with the physical rhythm of movement, but sometimes I become aware that with every thought I see this represented visually in my mind.
eg if I'm calculating an interest payment over X period I see the actual numbers lined up in my mind in the same way they would be if doing the calculation on paper.
Then, when reading, although not usually conscious of it, I know that I picture the scene described in, say, a novel, visualise the characters and their interaction, the surrounding circumstances, feel the temperature of summer or winter etc.
Do we all do this? Are there other ways of comprehending what we are reading?
If we are making a plan for the future, do we all visualise the results of that plan and the method of achieving that result in our minds?
I'm not sure if this makes any sense to others, but would be really interested in anyone's thoughts.
