Ok so the purpose of this thread is to share a documentary I saw recently that effected me in a way that I did not expect.
I am sharing it here because it is my belief that you should take the time to inform yourself and your children about what you are buying, especially relating to what you are eating.
Yes, most of us are aware of a lot of what goes on with the meat we buy from our supermarkets but have you seen it with your own eyes? For me, I needed to see it for it to have the impact that you would expect any intelligent, well informed human being would have.
I'm not a hippy, I'm not vegetarian and I truly don't care what you choose to do in your life. What I care about is whether or not you are making an informed decision. For it is not the final decision that matters to me, as long as it's an informed one. I trust that people will make the best decisions for themselves that they possibly can.
So here is the link to a documentary called "Earthlings" narrated by Joaquin Phoenix. You will need a Youtube account to watch it. It takes 1 minute to create one if you don't have one already. If you choose not to watch it, as my partner did after the first 10 minutes then just know that it has resulted in us making a very easy choice at the supermarket. We now only buy free range meat, eggs and are looking at alternative milk products.
If you don't want to watch the documentary, then I encourage you to watch this very short (2min) clip which basically sums up what you can do if you're concerned about the meat that you're eating.
I just want to be clear that I'm not advocating veganism/vegetarianism. We have not given up meat nor do we intend to. We're just concerned about the quality of the meat we buy and the welfare of the (intelligent) animals that are kept in tiny cages from the moment they are born to the moment they die. It's about having a heart and making a very simple choice when doing your weekly shop.
