I'd be interested in feedback from members who have teenagers.
Talking to a cousin today who has a 17 year old son who is profoundly deaf so unable to talk or communicate with most people, she was complaining that he woke her up when he arrived home around 4am this morning.
When I asked where he had been until that time, she didn't know, thought he had said he was staying with a similarly deaf friend, and hadn't asked him why he came home at such a time.
I was pretty taken aback at her casual attitude about this: she said "oh, he's a teenager, there's nothing I can do about his choices".
Am I stupidly old fashioned or should she be ensuring this kid is accountable for his whereabouts as long as he's still living under her roof? He is still at school.
