Sadly, my youngest sister is suffering an eating disorder (anorexia nervosa), she lived over east for a period of time, and due to the rest of the family being in the west we werent fully aware of how downhill her situation had become. We finally convinced her to come home, but is not responding to help from her GP and councellors she has been referred to. I seem to be the family member she will talk to most about anything, so i am trying to throw myself into any information and services that are available to help her.
I have spoken to a Govt department that have directed me to BeyondBlue as a point of further information. Other than that they weren't much help.
What i am asking from the wise and extremely helpful people on here is any services, reading material or advice they would care to share.
Particularly, if anyone can recommend a book written by an anorexia sufferer that chronicles their experience and how they started on the path to recovery, that would be great. I feel that if i can understand her thought process better i will have a better chance of flicking the right switch to help her.
I am in 2 minds about taking the hard line approach with her, as she may withdraw from me, but I am not sure if I am correct in saying (in the worst case scenario) she can be declared mentally unfit and be admitted involuntarily to hospital.
At this point I am willing to present her with some options and hope she will pick one that is most suitable to her.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
