... tsk tsk.. should have listened to Jason Akermanis.
... tsk tsk.. should have listened to Jason Akermanis.
I use to live in his area a lifetime ago and knew his sons. He use to be a bouncer at one stage and a bit of a tosspot.
Heres to you Davey
wow... i would have never guessed it
edit: just read that he is married... oh jeez
I'd never heard of David Campbell before now, but can't see why his personal choices need to be splashed across the media. This stuff should be between Mr Campbell and his family.
We have, amongst others, a Climate Change Minister who is homosexual, ditto the leader of the Greens, and no one bats an eyelid.
How does Mr Campbell's private sexual activities affect his capacity to do his job?
Seems to me like a very poor taste media grab for attention that will have huge and horrible ramifications for a family.
Lastly, let's not forget his abuse of government funds. Although this (in the press) will be spread far and wide, more so than it really need to be, it was still and abuse.
Sadly, it won't look at bad as the pm who let his kid use $15K of mobile phone usage.
lastly, i'll be out in bush for next 3 weeks so won't have a chance to responed this this. In fairness, I'm half pissed and probably shouldn't have responded anyway.
The guy goes out for a personal "good time" and some sleezebag "journalist" hiding in the dark takes some footage and ruins his life. I hope the "journalist" is proud of him/herself.
His sexual tendencies don't make me mistrust him, but if he can live a complete lie to his family for years, he would seem to have the capacity to deceive in his job. Just read a public poll on whether he should have resigned or not and the vast majority felt that he didn't need to. (SMH online) I guess most people believe what happens after work doesn't affect work. I'm not 100% sure, but in any case I hope the media leave him and his family alone now- he's resigned and none of the details are anyone's business but theirs
Statistics: 172 Closed Trades since July 07, Trades: Winners 135 - Losers 37, Expectancy/$1 Risked: $0.78
Stinks of a set up to me........
Why else would the media have been lieing in wait. He obviously piissed someone off that knows his habits and the misuse of taxpayers funds is the icing on the cake to get him out.
Only my view as a warp minded conspiracy theorist.
It's interesting because I've only been in Sydney for 5 months and since arriving have seen this guy's mug in the news at least twice a week. He would have to have the worst job in the government...it's just shamble after shamble....anyway I was wondering when he would resign...looks like I was correct...just in different circumstances
Anyway naturally private lives should be that way for a reason but the media loves a beat up
I think this was more in the nature of a set up by other factions of the Labour Party. A neat, nasty way to exit an opponent.
So where are we now? Have we decided that we should put a tail on every politician and see who is playing with who? Obviously if deceit and deception is the issue then every politician who has played around needs to sacked on the spot...
And of course every closet gay has to be outed and sacked as well. That should just about decimate all the political parties in quick time.
Of course the reason why this doesn't happen is that almost every politician is acutely aware of 'stones and glass houses'. Just takes a special piece of sleaze and an opportunistic piece of journalist xxxx to prove the exception.
What I really, really can't wait for is a similar expose on the sexual lives and habits of newspaper proprietors. THAT should make an interesting read for the prurient. Perhaps we should start up a thread on that theme and ask for contributions
Politicians and journalists would have known about this for years. Make no mistake. As someone said, he p!ssed someone off, and they got him.
The NSW Labor Party is an absolute joke, and I am absolutely sure that they are not only going to get beaten, but utterly demolished at the next election. They are, simply, a bunch of crooks. And this is from a long term Labor supporter - never voted anything else in my life!!!
Oh well, if you work in the public eye, expect to be watched.
Journalists love a good story
The NSW government as a whole could use this
And, whilst I'm always for complete honesty, I think it's a bit of a stretch to assume any deception (if that is what occurred) on an intensely private matter would necessarily extend into his professional life.
What is the 'misuse of taxpayer funds' that's being widely referred to?
If it's his use of his government car, apparently the terms of the provision of these include that they may be used for private purposes as well as work.
I'm not especially comfortable to be coming across as an apologist for Mr Campbell, who may have all sorts of other character flaws for all I know.
But I'm just sick of the crappy commercial media being happy to ride all over people's personal lives to get a day of attention. A family has now been humiliated in the most public way for something that is none of the public's business.
Never let anyone dictate your life path.
There is nothing illegal in his frequenting a gay bar. There is no scandal in this either despite the smutty efforts of channel 7 and the rest of the media pack (of dogs) that have tried to beat this into something scandalous.
Australia has laws to protect individuals against any form of discrimination on the basis of Race, Religion, sex and sexual orientation. I consider this as discrimination.
Channel 7 tried to lead with the story on the basis the he had been "spotted" leaving a gay bar, as if someone innocently passing by spotted him. The reality was that they were laying in wait for him. Then there is the aspects of blackmail and coercion wherein channel 7 appears to have advised him they were going to publicly out him. This literally forced him to tender his resignation from the front bench to the premier and then to make a public statement.
Unfortunately, this gave channel 7 the oportunity to run the story on the basis that he had resigned rather than their implied earlier intention of outing him. However, it is obvious that channel 7 had to go into damage control, trying to justify their actions, when they received a huge public backlash criticising them for their gutter jounalism. Trying to justify the running of this smut, on the basis of misuse of the Government car, is ridiculous. The car is part of the perks that go with the job and is there for his ministerial and personal use, in the same manner as any one receiving a company car as part of their sallary package.
I consider channel 7 ( including the peronal making up their entire news and morning show staff) have sunk to a despicaple low level of proffessionalism. Also, in my opinion, the companies running ads at the time this media abuse was running should be boycotted by the public unless they issue statements condemning channel 7 for their abuse of media.
"Speak softly, but carry a big stick". Theodore Roosevelt.
Old Campbell was a fairly hard working pollie compared to the rest of them. I don't know if he would be classed a homosexual, more likely a sexual deviant. Unfortunately Wollongong produces a lot of these stories and the media still has only scratched the surface. Corruption and Wollongong generally go hand in hand. The stories behind the story of that town can beat any underbelly series.
If he was an MP only no problem.
But as a minister he is compromised.
He was vulnerable to being corrupted by having a secret that could have being used against him.
I would also like to see the content of the Ministerial Oath I've got a feeling he might be compromised here also.
However I agree with all the previous posts regarding feeling symathy towards him and his family and unfairness of the media intrusion.
BTW isn't this NSW labour government possibly the most inept and worst government in Australia's History.
My Trading Beliefs and Philosophy http://wmtrading.org/
Both sides can be dirty. David Campbell has been living on the fat-of-the-land too long. Just have a look at him. What a disgrace!
There was no mention in the mainstream press about this now-defunct Federal MP's activities.
Liberal Party Federal Member for Ryan Michael Johnson resigns over $12 million coal contract fee.
Here's The AGE piece on it.
SCANDALS come in all shapes and sizes in politics. The question is: what ought we be scandalised about?
Here's a link to an ASF thread about some of the policy views of Mr. DODGY Johnson. Talk about dodgy!
