Default Amiquote and Yahoo! Finance free data

Does anyway out there have Amiquote and gets their EOD data from Yahoo! Finance.

I am really really struggling to download lists from all the various exchanges that Yahoo! Finance have on offer.

I know how to search for symbols and multiple symbols but how do you bring up exchange lists in aid of create a database though Amiquote

I would like the following echanges

http://finance.yahoo.com/exchanges

The instructions i have been following have been from the following page, but the links to the exchange lists havent been working for some reason

http://www.amibroker.com/guide/h_amiquote.html

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm in the same boat, have been trying to download commodities data but haven't been successful so far. On yahoo it says that information is "new", am I doing something wrong or is it just not supported yet?

Try this link for starters:

http://au.finance.yahoo.com/investing

Then go to "world markets" on the left hand column

Pick region & exchange & components.

I'm still having problems, for instance crude oil:
I've tried writing in the tls file CL.NYM, CLG10.NYM, CLG.NYM, CL10.NYM
it doesn't find any of them.
I haven't had any problem downloading treasury notes and such however...

Don't think one can get CL historical data from Yahoo.

Maybe someone else might be able to assist you.

You need proper contract added to ticker. Try CLG10.NYM

Default Big Problem with Free Yahoo Data

Hi All --

I have just realised that the dates on my free yahoo data are all out of whack.

Each market I have goes something like this: 14/12/09, 15/12/09, 16/12/09, 17/12/09, 18/12/09, but then it goes, 23/12/09, 24/12/09, and then jumps to 19/01/2010 and then to 26/01/2010

The only thing i can think of is that these are the dates when I updated all the tickers. But does that mean that I need to update it everyday to get accurate data?

If I am away from my laptop for a week, will that mean that i will have a week missing from my data when i go to update it next?

With my Norgate Premium Data, if I am away for a week, i will get an update of current data PLUS all the data for that week I was away. Is there any way of performing my yahoo updates so that I get all data available? Otherwise this renders the yahoo data absolutely useless.

Anyone else have such a problem with yahoo data?

Cheers

Greetings all --

First to answer the question about using AmiQuote and Yahoo. AmiQuote will see that your database has a gap and request the necessary data to fill in the missing days. If there are some issues with longer or shorter periods of missing data, you can instruct AmiQuote what starting date you want it to use. It will get data for the entire list from that date forward, and replace whatever is in the database with the newly downloaded data.

---------------------

And about using free data sources in general. If you are in the process of learning technical analysis, free data is fine. If you already have some trading systems and you will be placing trades based on your afl code and the data in your database, free data can be very expensive.

If I may quote from page 31 of "Introduction to AmiBroker" --

"Free data has a cost to you -- the cost of checking the data for missing quotes, bad values, unadjusted splits, and so forth, and correcting those problems. Subscription data services, such as Quotes Plus, Premium Data, CSI, and others, provide that maintenance for you and deliver cleaner, more consistent data with less effort on your part. End-of-day stock data costs about $40 per month -- more for some services, less for others."

And a comment I regularly make --

"If you use free data, you will have a new hobby -- database maintenance."

Thanks for listening, and sorry for the "told you so",
Howard

yeah Howard, that makes sense, no need to say sorry, i can see how the costs associated with the time it takes to update 'free' data and check for errors, does add up
