Re: Amiquote and Yahoo! Finance free data
Greetings all --
First to answer the question about using AmiQuote and Yahoo. AmiQuote will see that your database has a gap and request the necessary data to fill in the missing days. If there are some issues with longer or shorter periods of missing data, you can instruct AmiQuote what starting date you want it to use. It will get data for the entire list from that date forward, and replace whatever is in the database with the newly downloaded data.
---------------------
And about using free data sources in general. If you are in the process of learning technical analysis, free data is fine. If you already have some trading systems and you will be placing trades based on your afl code and the data in your database, free data can be very expensive.
If I may quote from page 31 of "Introduction to AmiBroker" --
"Free data has a cost to you -- the cost of checking the data for missing quotes, bad values, unadjusted splits, and so forth, and correcting those problems. Subscription data services, such as Quotes Plus, Premium Data, CSI, and others, provide that maintenance for you and deliver cleaner, more consistent data with less effort on your part. End-of-day stock data costs about $40 per month -- more for some services, less for others."
And a comment I regularly make --
"If you use free data, you will have a new hobby -- database maintenance."
Thanks for listening, and sorry for the "told you so",
Howard
