After Hours Trading

Hey everyone.

I am new to the stock market and i am trying to learn about it including different strategies for investing and so on.

One question i did have is can anyone explain to me how after hours trading works? Im not too familiar with this however i can see particularly with stocks in the US that it has the last price and then an "after hours" price..

I would really like to know how this works if someone could share their knowledge.

Some US exchanges allow brokers to trade after the official closing time. The ASX doesn't.
