As an Expat, this song is my homeland. I often hear it in Peru. Sometimes I think cafes and bars put it on deliberately to stirr me and make me homesick.
They couldn't have stolen it could they?
Whatever the technicalities, an absolutley amazing tune. Brings a shiver to my spine every time I hear it. Along with Great Southern Land by Ice House.
Men at Work one step closer to losing royalties
July 30, 2009 - 11:07AM
Aussie pop icons Men At Work are one step closer to being stripped of thousands of dollars in royalties from their 1980s smash hit, Down Under.
A judge in the Federal Court has ruled that a company suing them for copyright infringement owns the copyright of the famous song they are alleged to have copied.
The band has been accused of stealing Down Under’s famous flute riff from the children’s tune, Kookaburra Sits In The Old Gum Tree, penned more than 75 years ago by Toorak teacher Marion Sinclair for a Girl Guides competition.
