A lot has been said about Peter Costello, the $10bn surplus and the reduction of income taxes, which is now seen to have been a major contributor to the increase in inflation and to interest rate rises.
I have a hypothetical question for you.
If you were treasurer and you had the $10bn to spend, would you spend it and if so, what would you spend it on that would benefit the economy?
Please donít get political on my a$$, this is not a political discussion, it is an economic discussion on government spending.
I personally would go for infrastructure like faster and cheaper broadband, subside solar or waste reducing energy, and improvements to the rail (freight) and all public transport networks nation wide to assist in getting cars and large trucks off the roads...
