New South Wales Education Minister John Della Bosca says he wrote the apology given to him by a central coast nightclub.
The statement was issued by the management of the Iguana Joe's nightclub after staff claimed they were abused by Mr Della Bosca and his wife, federal Labor MP Belinda Neal.
The apology is one of the reasons the Premier Morris Iemma has resisted pressure to sack his Education Minister.
Mr Della Bosca says the owners asked him to write the apology and fax it to them and they changed it slightly before signing it.
Mind you, how can the club apologise or withdraw statements put up by individuals"I had several discussions with the co-owner and he agreed to issue an apology in the terms that were signed," he said.
"It's a perfectly reasonable thing to negotiate the terms of an apology. I've been defamed by claims that they realised were wrong and they wanted to apologise."
PS I find that, around this household, I rarely get to "negotiate" the terms of apologies - it's usually "yes dear, no dear, three bags full etc etc"

negotiating an apology...
"yes sir, no sir, 3 bags at least 98.5% full sir "
I wonder if Belinda Neal is available for State of Origin 3.We need someone like her in the NSW forwards
I note that the ABC is hopeful of interviewing the JP who took the statements from the bar staff.
like - he is/was apparently a good friend of Pauline Hanson, to the point of being the One Nation electoral candidate -
and also a staffer for (or associate of, or similar) Chris Hartcher, (Lib member) etc
(sorry I wish I could remember the JP's name but I cannot)
Della Bosca at Iguana Club - 7 8th June
ahh the JP was Chris Spence.. .should be interesting to see what a (thorough) police investigation brings up. As the ABC pointed out, many of those staff statememnts seemed to have a fair degree of tutoring
(PS my bet is that the truth lies somewhere in the middle
The Justice of the Peace who witnessed the statutory declarations, Chris Spence, works as NSW Liberal frontbencher Chris Hartcher's media adviser.
But Mr Hartcher has strongly denied any political involvement in the events.
"[Mr Spence] is a friend of one of the staff who Mr Della Bosca and Miss [sic] Belinda Neal abused and they needed a Justice of the Peace to witness their statutory declarations," he said.
"They invited him to witness their statutory declarations and this, as a JP, he did."
What an asset to the NSW parliament this guy is .... er, was ...
Della Bosca quits after sex scandal

Yep, what an idjit.
But, I reckon if I were a bloke married to Belinda Neale, I'd be having an affair too!
I wander why other people don't lose jobs over infidelity?
It looks that it is not OK only for certain positions, for everybody else work is separate to sex - private life.
(Don't get me wrong, I am happy for him to go)
Does it seem that the rejected 26 year old went to the media?
I heard some quotes on the radio this morning of text messages he had sent to her in the early days of the relationship and rather doubt he would have provided them.
I have a relation that talked to him about a week and a bit ago. He must have known the writing was on the wall, because he mentioned he was leaving politics.
