Default Underbelly

So how is it?

Us Mexicans aren't allowed to watch it.

Is it as good as the hype?

Its quite good - bit edgy and is pushing the boundaries for an Australian drama which is usually too nice and fluffy for my liking. I'm originally from UK and sorry to say it but they do know how to make good TV.

Good to see them spending money on something homegrown rather than the american rubbish that we are constantly subjected to.

Only complaint - per usual its packed full of commercial breaks.

I always find it a bit cringeworthy seeing the same actors paraded out again and again in different guises for yet another 'top aussie drama'. Its nowhere nearly as laughable as the patrol boat debarcle or other recent flops - I managed to last through the first episode and get hooked enough to watch it again - were it not based on a real situation I doubt I'd have made it through a second episode - I also just finished reading the book by the lawyer Andrew Fraser who co-incidentally represented a few of the criminals covered in the series.

Um, lots of sex scenes, language, good actors (even if you do see them advertising washing powders and Insurance!) violence, lots of sex, some surprises, drugs and it is based on a true story. And did I say it had a lot of sex?

Which makes it........excellent watching!

Carl Williams portrayal so far has been very interesting - suspect he is squirming in jail because no doubt he has seen it

Good Episode on 06/03- including a eyeful of Madeleine West (Dee from Neighbours).

Now the killing of the main characters is occurring, the party has just begun...

Stupid bruddy court order

IIRC isn't Madeline West the partner of Shannon Bennett of Vue De Monde fame?

How on earth Ch9 thought this could be shown on TV after last night's episode with Mokbel beggars belief.

Getting a bit sick of the sex scenes though

Another 2 dead last night!

Well I'm sure nearly every Victorian has seen Underbelly

I must say...... bleh.

It pales in comparison to Blue Murder which is by far one of the hardest series about crooked cops and Gangsters in Australia.

We're talking about Roger Rogerson and Neddy Smith here

It's on sale at JB hi fi for $13

I promise you it will be the best 13 bucks you will ever spend

"Forget NYPD Blue, forget Blue Heelers (sic), even forget The Bill, Blue Murder feels about as real as police drama can get. Instilled with vicious black humour, its funny, its violent, its disturbing, and quite simply, its superb. This is a series that keeps you glued to every scene, even every word. I cannot recommend it highly enough. The transfer itself is pretty average to look at, and the disc is crying out for some extras, but this is simply the best Australian release for some time. No question. See it."

Was Blue Murder based on things that actually happened though? IF not, it is just another gangland story. The compelling issue about Underbelly is that the characters existed, people were killed violently in very public places and in places everyone knows.

OK, I see that it is based on a real criminal. Guess ABC's publicity machine isnt all that effective then, is it!

Not being much a watcher of TV, I had no intention of looking at Underbelly, but have watched a couple of episodes and became surprisingly absorbed in it. I had the same thought that has already been expressed here - viz that for potential jury members to be watching it would be insane.

agree - blue murder absolutely thrashes this production, and yes, it follows real events.

i guess the fact this new production is so recent and continues thru the courts as we speak makes it the more interesting.

but for quality production, try blue murder.

Haven't seen underbelly, being overseas, but hope to catch up with it some time. Enjoy a good crime drama and really got into the Sopranos.

Watching The Wire on dvd at the moment. Not sure if its on in Australia, but its vv good. But being HBO you need to be ok with the bad language and sex.

Every guy's dream series. Crime, murders and lots of skin! What more could you ask for in a mini-series?

Can't wait for the DVD to watch it back-to-back rather than waiting for the episodes.
