Good morning everyone, and welcome to the June 2013 stock tipping competition entry thread! :)

The June 2013 stock tipping competition is proudly sponsored by eToro. As the leader in social trading, eToro provides a simple, transparent and enjoyable way to invest and trade in currencies, commodities and indices online. See who is trading what in real-time, follow the best performing traders and automatically copy what the best traders do. It's the smarter way to trade.

With more than 1.5 million users worldwide eToro make financial markets accessible to everyone. Join eToro today and experience the difference for yourself!

A quick recap of the rules for those not familiar with them:

1. You MUST have a minimum of 25 posts to enter.

2. Each entrant may choose one ASX listed stock. Options, warrants and deferred settlement shares are not permitted.

3. Stocks with a price of less than $0.01 are ineligible for the competition, as are stocks that are currently suspended from trading.

4. The winner is the entrant whose selected stock performs the best in percentage terms between June 1 and June 30.

5. The maximum number of entrants in the competition is 100.

The competition winner will receive $100. The second placegetter will win $50 and the third placegetter $25.

You have until midnight on Friday, May 31 to enter. However, in practice, entries can be submitted until this thread is closed. No entries submitted after that can be accepted for any reason.

Those who qualify, please post your entries in this thread. Remember, once you have selected your stock, you CANNOT change it for any reason. Also, you must be qualified when you enter.

Each month we usually have some members who do not qualify for the competition but enter anyway. If someone who has selected a stock hasn't yet qualified for the competition, their stock is officially up for grabs! Just mention it when you post your entry.

Best of luck to all entrants! :D

So, Bonds are about to start trading as etf's on the ASX from today, am interested what this might mean and for some general insight into bonds.

Here is the link to the codes and bond details.

http://australiangovernmentbonds.gov.../list-of-etbs/

The interest rates seem to vary quite widely, even with similar expiry dates, is this the quality of the bond?

Am I right in that upon expiry the Govt will pay $100 per bond, so if in effect the bond is trading at $110 at expiry you lose $10 per bond? Conversly if it's trading at $90 you make $10?

As best as I understand it if RBA rates drop the face value of the bond will rise and if RBA rates rise the face value will decrease, so currently, over the longer term, one could argue there is greater downside risk than upside?

How would people compare the risk of a Govt bond Versus a Bank deposit in terms of risk / loss of capital?

Cheers

Who is manipulating share prices on the stock market - in particular LINC ENERGY ?

It has been a very crazy, frustrating ride with LNC over the past few years ? Many people have voiced concerns about systemic short selling and conflicts of interest with large financial institutions. Along the way investors have lost not only their fingers but arms legs and everything in between.

One particular investor has taken the trouble to investigate and document what has happened with LNC shares from 2010 - 2013. Its a long read but IMO well worth the time. Far more significantly however it opens the question of market manipulation and the role that ASIC or other financial institutions should take to ensure transparency in the marketplace.

The researcher does not focus solely on LNC. If you followed CUDECO with much frustration in the past few years you can check out the analysis on that share

Where do we go to from here ?
http://www.scribd.com/doc/139929124/...inc-Energy-LNC
