One I orginally used before I bought AmiBroker is FCharts (http://www.spacejock.com). There's a free and a $$ version.
The free version does basic charts and includes a few moving averages and a couple of indicators (MACD and RSI from memory).

There's incredible charts and other free software that have been discussed here previously, try the search tool with a few keywords and you'll get some great results.
About the egoli software- looks interesting, might try it out later but I'm happy with the comsec platform (as long as they keep ProTrader1), I don't want to waste too much time on charting.

RichKid,
I have been using ComSec Platform for a while now from ProTrader1 to now ProTrader2, the funny thing is I never get charge ie. $77 per month eventhough I don't trade with them.
Maybe I should keep it quiet.

Hey Jet,
They may whack you with arrears at the end of a quarter. Read the fine print to be safe. Also, maybe PT2 is so poor atm that they can't bring themselves to charge for it!

Forget about software packages, instead print out as many price charts as you can from many different markets. Study price movements, ie price patterns, patterns of trends etc. Learn how markets move. The first thing you have to decide is which direction a market is trending, the second a good position to enter that trend. You will want to stay with that trend until it is at risk of ending. Simple as that. Most important of all, study money management first.(ie how much are you hoing to risk) Your first goal in market is to survive- not make money. If you survive you may have a chance of making money, because the average trader or investor (90% of them) go from one distaster to another. No software package will teach you the above only hard work and persistance will.
Follow the above and you will ahead of 90% of your opponents straight away.

Agree with what you say, but wouldn't charting software help in this endeavour? There are some great free packages to start out with, as mentioned below.

Rich Kid,
I have egoli on my computer, and just looked it up for you.
I do not use fibanacci, But Egoli has what is called Fibancci Retracement Indicator. Not sure if this is what you want.
just Download the program, its free.
Also I noticed that Info choice has the same program to be downloaded for free as well.

I use Fcharts Pro. It's the "pro" version of the free Fcharts as posted by GreatPig. Well worth the couple of hundred $$ IMHO. Well designed and constantly supported and updated by the Aussie author. They have their own forum to discuss formulas etc, as well as a community manual showing how to set it up and get the best usage out of the software.
I get my end of day data from www.cooltrader.com.au
Cost is just $55 per year for 10.30pm download.
They also sell historic data on CD so you can load up previous years of data if you're starting out.

Thanks Sarah,
I'll dl it and see how it is, that appears to be what I was after, I've started using Elliott Wave so those fibonacci levels are essential.

Well, I've used it and have got a chart with the fib levels too (see the OST thread), but I find that it doesn't have some of the smaller stocks in the free version (eg BMX, EQN), must read the fine print to see what the other limitations are, from memory this doesn't appear to be a time limited trial. It really does look great, so many indicators and functions, easy to use and navigate too. Seems to be much easier to use than Incredible Charts at first glance.
Thanks again Sarah!

The search function must be a little jiggered.
If you do equities, australia, equinox, you don't get anything.
If you do equities, world, equinox you get EQN.AX and EQN.TO
Hey, I didn't realize that the eqn FPO's were on the tsx and we have the depository receipt.

the topic of this thread needs a sticky. Does someone want to compile a list of software, free or otherwise so that it can be stickied in the beginners forum. I reckon its worthwhile, it was one of the first things i searched for when i became a member here.

Hi Mark,
EQN and BMX were listed when I searched for them last night but the chart wouldn't come up, just a blank window. This morning I was able to bring up the EQN chart but the BMX chart wouldn't show, must be a bug of some sort, I'll keep trying.
Yep, they are ADR's for EQN, NEM is another, there are some great Canadian stocks which Doug Casey recommended that I couldn't find ADR's for on the ASX, let me know if you guys find any.
I might do a search for all ASX ADR's and see what comes up, maybe worth a new thread....an easy way to diversify into international shares at low cost. Nice to see ProCharts having such a good search function and video training guides.

Hi dreilly
There are actually a number of threads on software, the search function is the best tool imho. We'll keep your suggestion in mind though, there is a list of software in some old thread, which software you're after depends on a number of factors so one thread may become unwieldly- there's everything from portfolio/testing software to charting and fundamental analysis software out there. Prices and products/features keep changing too. ASF has threads on Amibroker, Metastock, Protrader etc....

Looks like each time you load a chart, it grabs the data from msdn news or whoever you sign in to. I think if your internet connection is slow, you may be getting time out errors. Bmx works fine for me.

Thanks Mark, that may be it, although my connection is fast, BMX was fine the next time I tried but it's hit and miss. Maybe something to do with proxy settings???
Eitherway no drama.
Here's a screen shot showing where the fib tools are (I use the horizontal one for price, the vertical one can be used to check time/price cycles as well). Had a query about this so I hope it's useful.
