Newbie to share trading and these forums. Can anyone explain what the bid$ column relates to in commsec's online share watchlists. Especially just prior to the opening of the market when this value for a particular share might actually be higher than the previous days closing share price?

Welcome aboard.

Please read

http://www.asx.com.au/investor/education/basics/trading_hours.htm

so you understand a bit about the different market phases.

And http://www.asx.com.au/investor/education/basics/price_calculations.htm

so you understand openings and closes.

This may clear things up.

During normal trading, of course the bid is what someone is willing to pay for a share, and the offer is what someone is willing to sell for.

Cheers,

Hi All,

I hate to start a thread for this but cant get my answer through other threads. I am in the process of opening an account with commsec. Is there conditional order system adequate or is it too unreliable? Just want to know if you lot think its a problem or not?

It is as good as it can be. There are no guarantees with conditional ordering and selling. It depends on demand in the market.

Hey folks, just a few questions about CommSec:

1.If I transfer some issuer sponsored shares (<$10k) over to a CommSec account with the intention of selling them, is that counted as a "one off trade" with $66 in brokerage?

2.When you open up your Commonwealth Direct Investment Account (CDIA), this should appear in NetBank so you can easily transfer from other Commonwealth accounts to the CDIA?

3. Finally, with regards to "Up front" Conditional Orders and "On execution" Conditional Orders - does this imply they charge an extra amount for having stop losses or limits?

bvbfan
24th-April-2007, 04:11 PM
1 - No, just converting issuer to chess (if the company is chess sponsored)
2 - Yes provided you ask for linkage and the account is in your name or have authority on the account
3 - Stop orders have extra charges on top of the standard brokerage

Am i the only one having trouble with Commsec today?

Screen freezing, log out, log back in, when it does work, its on a go slow.

Couldnt place orders yesterday, kept logging me out, or saying that codes were wrong.

Everything else i have open is working fine, just commsec.:banghead:

You are not the only one. The comsec web site sucks, they need to get their act in order or I for one will be changing brokers.

I have heard that Commsec charges an inactivity fee if an account is not active in any one calender year. Does anyone know if this is correct?

I just started using an old account that would have to be 10yrs old and was only ever used to get data etc from.
Pleasantly surprised when I logged onto the old number and password and it still came up.
Traded today no problems

The Comsec website lists all fees applicable:

https://www.comsec.com.au/Public/WhatItCosts.aspx

From what I can gather, an "inactivity fee" of US$65 is only applicable if you have registered for International Share Trading through Comsec and you have not made trades on any global markets for a year.

This is probably a silly question but i just bought some shares through comsec - the order has been confirmed and the settlement date is 05/06/07. I thought it would automatically debit my bank account. Do i own the shares yet? I havnt actually paid for them (nothing has left my bank account).

My basic question is how the hell do i pay for them - am i blind and the info is in comsec - seems really stupid not to have answers to such obvious questions.

Thanks for any help - and yes i have emailed commsec but i thought this site would be faster :).

When your settlement date arrives, the money will then be debited from your nominated account. Settlement date is 3 days from date of purchase (open market days)

And if you sell the shares you brought within those 3 days, then the settlement date will be 3 days from the date u sold them, and comsec will just add / deduct the total amount and either credit or debit your account whether or not you made money on the shares or lost money.

:)

You pay for them on settlement. So you get 3 days of interest on your money while owning the shares:D. If you have CDIA account with CBA/Commsec they just debit your account on settlement day.

Hi,

What happens if you make a trade on the same day then sell 3 hours later and do not have the money in the account with this balance it self out when the account settles as long as it's on the same trading day ?

Thanks

Commsec will debit/credit the balance of the trade to/from your account. Same goes if you sell $2000 worth of shares from XYZ and buy $2500 worth of shares in ABC on the same day they will take $500 from your account on settlement day, or if vice versa will put $500 in your account.

this thread is for any queries about commsec that people want to know or get help with. i remember seeing another commsec thread but i cant search it, so i thought il start one.

i am having a few troubles with the commsec website. it been looking abit weird... i purchased some stocks last week, and the settlement date is today, i have received the letter of the purchase. however as i log onto my commsec account, under position statement, under total cost it says 0 but under market value and profit, it shows the value....also under position change its 0%. the profit figure shows... my capital + the profits...usually it should only show the profit you have made.

when i go into view holding, my stock is there, however it still says 0 registered units, and purchase price 0.00. and profit at capital + profit.

i am very worried, as huge profits are at risk. i am confident because i have recieved the confirmation letter, but am just slightly worried....

any ideas?
thanks

If your worried give them a call 131519.

Sounds like all is ok but will put your mind at rest, its most likely showing 0 as the trade has been settled.

You will need to update the cost price manually I think, I have same problem.

That will fix other issues

Am I allowed to either hijack this thread or ask another question about Commsec? Oh well, I am sure Joe will quickly advise if not. I too have a commsec account and it takes on average 5 days for the value of the trade after sale to hit my CBA account. Is this the norm? I am still relatively new at all this and with my first sales, I thought this might be a hic-cup; now I am beginning to think that it is a 'feature'.

Any thoughts?

In your "View Holdings" screen, click on "Edit" at the top and put in the price you paid for your stock manually. This should fix it all up, except for the "Registered Units". This will not show the number of units you own until three working days (T+3) after your purchase. Hope that sorts it all out for you.

Last week there was a bank holiday and all my trades were out a day so that may explain it

Hi all

This has happened before on the odd occasion (maybe 5 times in last 10 months?). Usually they fix it up during the day, I think once it took til the next day.

I reckon whoever re-set the screens put in zero for last price on everything, rather than yesterday's close.

Mind you, the way things are going, they might be right in a few days!

Nearly 5 hours after market close I figure I'd better find out what the market's been trying to do to me today.

Comsec is showing no volumes and no prices except bid and offer.

I don't see any comment here about problems during the day, which I guess is the main thing. Still, does anyone know anything about this bout of amnesia?

This happened to me once, where there was a 100% loss on everything. Phoned Comsec and the friendly help desk person said to close the IE, clear the cookies (Control panel, network, internet options, Delete (cookies)) then reload the IE. Worked like a charm - up came all my information.

Just a quick question. last thursday i sold a share at a loss and made some small gains on friday, monday and tuesday which would not have covered the costs completely but they are yet to take out the money from my account.

i had called on the friday to the setup protrader and just asked to confirm with them that the money would be taken out on tuesday and they confirmed with me

not sure if i should call or not b/c i'd prefer not to pay, haha :p: :D

thanks

Not sure where to put this, so please move it if it is not the appropriate thread. I am a lowly Comsec user, not the protrader type just the basic setup. For the last 45 mins prices have not been updating. For Example the XAO has been stuck on 6227.4 for the last 45 mins. Anyone else notice this?

Yes, and due to a recent penalty fee dispute I will be transferring my holdings over to my Etrade acct asap. I have Comsec & Etrade, and Etrade is a clear winner, despite it's faults, which seem to have been rectified over time.

Prices seem to have recovered on Comsec in the last 10 minutes. At least they seem to be changing. E-trade could be a plan, I only need the basics.

Sorry for ressurecting a dead thread, but how do I nominate an account to be used for trading? I'm a new trader, signed up for the commsec cash management thing and have the funds necessary in my Commonwealth investment account - Is this where the money is drawn from?

Whenever I had this problem with the basic Commsec a/c display, I was usually able to fix it by clearing out the cookies and saved files in the internet setup for Internet Explorer.

Hi new user here.

I have it set up so each time I BUY/SELL I am emailed a notice.

My first question is do I have to print and keep every BUY/SELL notice for annual tax purposes?

Second question is can I access them on the internet through my comsec profile some how? or do I have to request them through the bank?

I know I SHOULD have them all in my email inbox but a few of them have gone missing. (might have accidentally deleted them)

Cheers, Kieran

No you don`t. I use portfolio management software to record and started with Topshare Portfolio Manager which is strictly for ASX and now have upgraded to Stator AFM which encompasses Shares, Shares Margin, Warrants, Share CFD's, Futures, Index CFD's, Index, FX CFD`s, FX, Options, Managed Funds and Trust Units.

If you don`t record, then as previous poster suggests the electronic records are kept by your broker. Of course a financial year trade summary would still be needed for taxation purposes.

I used ezy manager portfolio management software - will not work on vista or w7

lucky I am with Interactive brokers

their reporting is extremely comprehensive so nothing else is needed by my accountant

[and I save all the time filing the paperwork and entering everything into the old software]
