Okay, at the moment the forums are structured like this:

1) ASX Stock Chat
2) General Chat
3) Derivatives
4) Dow Jones/Nasdaq/Other Markets
5) Trading Tips/Strategies/Charts

Is everyone happy with this?

If not, what changes would you make?

Thanks!

Joe

Could the last forum (5) have 'Beginners' or 'Basics' or something like that in the title? Just a suggestion for the benefit of newcomers to the site.

That is a great idea RK.......I am still on the basic level with stocks but I have been learning a lot from all the posts and really enjoying being a part of this.

*Still got training wheels on* :p

I like the idea of a newbie forum, somewhere where people can ask questions without getting flamed for being a beginner. Takes a while to learn all the lingo when your new...

I like the current titles but also like the idea of incorporating a NEWBIE area somewhere here.

I'd like to see a permanent link to the latest thread on the tipping comp, so that you can get to it from any page.

Follow My Trade is the second most popular forum on Reefcap.

Great for discussion and an ideal forum to adhere to your method.

I suggest we start this in "Trading Tips/Strategies/Charts" instead of creating a new title. IMHO the top level should remain as flat as possible.

Happy trading

Stef.

Just have General Discussion then.

Just have General Discussion then.Tech, where?
As a top level title? There's already a "General Chat" there.

I think "Follow My Trade" fits perfectly under "Trading Tips/Strategies/Charts" as that's what it is, or am I that wrong?

Happy trading

I'm getting the impression that a few threads that should be in the last forum (trading tips) end up in the 'general discussion' forum. Maybe this'll have to be policed in future to ensure some order on these boards. I can understand things like TV's 'the apprentice' and the effect of US election results going into general discussion, together with the price of oil etc as that's the obvious place for it. But to have trading strategies, styles and threads on particular charting software in 'general discussion' is a bit odd when there's a specific forum for those issues.

As the site grows if these issues aren't sorted out it will become very messy IMO and dissuade people for participating. Joe's done a great job so far so I'm glad he's started this thread to keep on top of things.

Also, beginners questions, as I mentioned earlier, should not be in general discussion- better to group them together so people don't keep asking identical questions.

So I do think that 'follow my trade' will fit in as Stefan suggested in 'trading tips', besides these are the Aussie Stock Forums and each site has its own style and make-up.

Guys to make life simple:

Just add:
"Trading Tips/Strategies/Charts/Follow My Trade"

Joe,
You can do this in a second.

Thanks for all your feedback. I really do appreciate it!

I agree with those who mentioned that we need a 'beginners' area, and it seems to make sense to create a new forum for that purpose.

Does anyone have any good ideas for a name? The easy option would be "Beginners Forum"... but that's a tad boring.

Hit me with a few suggestions!

I agree RK and I have started moving the odd thread from General Chat to Trading Tips/Strategies/Charts.

So please, if anyone can't find one of their threads, do a search for it using the search function. In all likelihood I have just moved it to another forum.

That sounds great Joe, looks like things are taking shape, nice to see the beginners loungs- now that this site is starting to take off you'll have lots to do once you get back from your break!

RK, I have added a 'Stock Tipping Competition' link to the footer that takes you directly to the competition page.

Hope this saves you some time.

I would like to see name by ASX code, as I find this sight frustrating, that you have to wade through titles of forums that don't follow a pattern.
Then, by all means, have a general chat forum, but the main reason I come is for stock forums.
Thanks,

Druggist,

I have fixed the search function so that you can find three letter strings (stock codes) easily. Hopefully you shouldn't have a problem locating references to particular stocks.

hi, joe.
Maybe you should set up a ledgens corner where the people who win the stock tipping comp get there name in lights(or something like that). It would give ppl an idea of who actually knows what they are talking about.

Much more to trading than picking one winner a month!!

Much more to trading than picking one winner a month!!Yes, I'd say a hall of fame for a monthly stock tipping competition is a bit far fetched considering what sort of selection process I use to select my pick for the month. As mentioned before, this comp is great for what it is but if you actually use it to trade serious money then maybe we should open a hall of fools instead. ;)

Happy trading

Thought I'd bump this old thread to see if everyone was still happy with the number of forums and their titles:

1) ASX Stock Chat
2) General Chat
3) Beginners Lounge
4) Derivatives
5) International Markets
6) Trading Tips/Strategies

Personally, I'm not a big fan of sites with dozens of forums, as many of them end up lying dormant with very few new threads or posts. However, if anyone has a good suggestion for another forum please let me know.

Just want to make sure we have everything covered.

I think it's working well Joe.

>>> Personally, I'm not a big fan of sites with dozens of forums, as many of them end up lying dormant with very few new threads or posts.<<<

Thats very true and anything out of the ordinary can just be put in General Chat.

The only additional forum which may work is a forex forum....but don't think there are enough forex traders here at this stage...something for later on maybe

Cheers

Hi Joe,
I agree with WayneL, you done a great job with the layout, I can't see much that needs changing atm, perhaps a prompt now and again to those who post in the wrong forum but they just have to read your forum description on the home page under each title to be clear. Sometimes too many forums can confuse people and it can break up the flow.

Hi again everyone

Just wondering how people feel about the idea of a Technical Analysis/Charting forum? Or does this fit under Trading Tips/Strategies?

Perhaps the Trading Tips/Strategies forum just needs to be renamed?

Any feedback would be appreciated. :D

Joe the topics are very different in my veiw.

Having thought about this a bit more and seeing more chartists on ASF I think we should start a TA forum as Joe has suggested. It'll help tidy things up imo. The current Trading tips forum can be for trading plans, money mgmt, general strategies etc. Let's go for it Joe!!

One issue, if a stock is posted in the TA forum the funnymentals people may have to post a new thread on that stock in the stock chat forum- hence duplication. Or maybe all stock specific chat should be in stock chat unless it's a specific TA view/tactic on the stock.

Joe,
I think there is some merit in a T/A forum, with a rider that it is about T/A. I agree with the other posts, you pretty much have the right number of forums. Too many and it becomes too busy, overcrowded, etc. I like the way it is designed at the moment. Congratulations!

Hi Joe,

I personally like this forum. It is clear and easy to use.

Charting would be good though.

I think keeping the forum condensed is a good idea as well. I think a charting one would be great.

I imagine that a charting one is going to see allot of embedded images of charts in posts etc. This will raise your disk usage and bandwidth and may cost you more particularly if the forum gets really big. Maybe this is not a problem for you I know hosting costs have come down allot in recent times. Just wanted to mention it.

Cheers,
MarkyMark

I agree re the number of forums.

There are some O/Seas sites that are so large its only possible to follow a few threads.Mind you they have 50000 members.

I also agree interative chart postings particularly with REALTIME examples rather than hindsite analysis will be great for discussion.
