Hi I'm thinking about trading asx stocks. I'm not sure what software/data feed to use. Right now I'm using telechart to trade U.S stocks...
I'm thinking about a westpac account(cheapest brokerage). Anything else?
This is what I need:
A cheap data feed - EOD will suffice for now but I'd like to know about RT options
Stock sorted into corresponding industry groups
Whatever financial data is available(preferable but not imperative)
The ability to screen ALL stocks based on technical factors, e.g. price, average volume, moving average lines, cross overs etc.
some easy way to swift through the stocks: e.g spacebar or scrollwheel
Sorting of a stock list based by price performance over specified time period
Watchlists
simple tool to calculate price increase over certain period
Any help with brokerage, data feed and software is greatly appreciated!

CommSec gives out a free software package for you to trade on if you trade options or if you trade a lot on normally listed stocks. Check here for features (http://www.comsec.com.au/professionaltrader2/PT2_Overview.asp)
I think market depth is deeper when you have the software.

I have BodhiFreeway but bought it years ago when it was a one-off payment. You have to subscribe yearly with them now and if you have to pay you might as well use Norgate Premium data - check out the website.
I use Metastock but again bought that years ago and still use version 7.2. don't think it is all that cheap now but you can do quite a bit.
a lot of people use Amibroker - a much, much cheaper option.

How about free?
I use Investorweb (http://www.investorweb.com.au) to get my EOD but CommSec now also provide it. I'm sure most of the brokers will too
But you may have trouble opening a ComSec account from overseas unless you already have a CBA account, from past experiences. (It may have changed over the years)
You can check brokerage and other features via Infochoice (http://www.infochoice.com.au)
