pricewise its about $24 a trade. not bad.

I do agree Doc but they did raise they price from 20 to 25. For that increase I would have like to have seen some more products offered such options or the ability to trade in overseas markets. From the customer surveys that they have been doing it does look like it is the pipeline though. I felt that the increase in brokeage fees was just a ploy to push you into one of their financial accounts or to use their margin loans.

I've been ripped off I pay 29.95 I think to the exact cent per trade .........the only gripe I have :is when you read their friday bulletine reports ,they would say something along these lines ....consider buying in at XXX cents .....week latter they revise their advice as HOLD,or ACCUMALATE (ie a downgrade) or suspend coverage due to price movement,or whatever -I see this nit-picking for sure but overall I never trust myself, let alone Huntleys ,but I have to take the plunge sometimes. I suppose if what they say is buyable(if there is a word ),and I agree with their reports -I go for it AT MY PRICE!............
Finally I just wish they would consider the FT and other o/seas bourses...... OOOOH Hong SENG Kong would be Grand!

what annoys me is that they obviously didn't listen for customer input. their website is still as annoyingly to navigate as it has always been. one example. there is no easy way to get from the watch list to a detailed price display. you always have to re-enter the code. and... is it just me.... or is the new westpac site awfully slow compared to the old one? I'm on 1.5M broadband and the information is just trickling in... all other internet sites are fast....

I am experiencing the same problems with Westpac as well. It all started after their site upgrade last week. Their broker site up till now has been very good and I ve been impressed with the speed when placing orders in the market. Hopefully this is just teething problems and we should be back to normal soon (I hope).

but, yes i have a premium account if i make 6 trades or more within a 3 month period. However that does not effect the price, its $24.95/ trade regardless of your subscription.
And i also would like to see overseas markets available at westpac as well, that would be great.

Apart from today's "on and off" I am consistantly getting announcements posted a lot later than I can get them from the ASX site. This is very inconvenient at times. I try and use the premium research in association with a watch list or a detailed quote when I am expecting a trade sensitive announcement and find I am getting announcements too late. Yesterday there were announcements on this forum many minutes before they were on the Westpac site. Does anyone have the same problem with other brokers?

Gotta say - withn comsec server overloaded as well - its a nice way to potentially `limit` a correction isn`t it. - All the major online trading houses seem to be down!!!
maybe its not such a bad thing to stop or limit panic selling by those who might be inclined to do so... but of course it also limits the bargain hunting...???

I spent a fair stack on brokerage last year as well.
One week i spent $600 (also happened to be my most profitable week).
My trading account is with them.
They have a Trust Account with Westpac.
Just transfer your funds to them and thats what you trade with.
Downside is you get no interest on those funds.
But for me thats not a problem.
Coz the only funds i keep with them are the funds i intend to trade with.
PM me if you want more details.

A person always picks up the fone and i was very impressed with their service.
Online share brokers had their busiest trading day on record today, as Australians frantically adjusted their portfolios after huge global stock plunges.
Share meltdowns in the US and China caused the Australian stock market to fall more than three per cent at the opening this morning, but there had been a slight recovery by the afternoon.
The trading stampede caused the web servers that power the online brokers to buckle, making them inaccessible and unable to process trading orders.
CommSec, Australia's largest internet broker, was inaccessible for a period, with visitors to the website reporting a "server is too busy" error message.
General manager Matt Comyn confirmed the CommSec slow-down was the result of "a huge spike in traffic this morning", but he denied there were any significant delays in processing orders.
"We did probably an average day's trade in the first 40 minutes," he said, adding that by about 11.30am 45,000 trades had been processed.
CommSec's record is 51,000 trades in a day.
Comyn said that CommSec was "in the process of adding some additional [server] capacity", which he said would prevent any further website slow-downs for the rest of the day.
But irate smh.com.au readers rejected Comyn's reassurances. One said that even at 2pm he still could not access his CommSec account.
"I would think there are grounds for class action by shareholders like myself who have been unable to access the market during such a volatile spell," he said.
Westpac experienced similar turbulence. One smh.com.au reader wrote in to say: "I have had an order unprocessed for nearly an hour, in my Westpac Online account, and their phones are engaged."
A Westpac online broking spokeswoman said: "Due to heavy usage there have been some delays, but the service has been available all morning."
ETrade also experienced service slowdowns; its chief executive, Brett Spork, said the website was taken offline between 1:15pm and 1:30pm for "fine tuning", after load issues earlier in the day.
Unessential features on the ETrade website were also disabled, so as to "not jeopardise the trading engine".
The cause of the intense trading was an overnight global share meltdown. Wall Street experienced its worst downturn since the attacks of September 11, 2001, while Chinese stocks suffered their biggest daily falls in a decade.
Australia's stockmarket followed suit this morning - the All Ordinaries Index plunged by 212 points to 5773, wiping $45 billion from the market value at the 10.15am opening.
The benchmark S&P/ASX200 Index dropped 206.9 points to 5786.9.

Westpac suffers online setback
Cameron England
September 05, 2007 12:00am
WESTPAC'S homepage crashed yesterday, but the bank assured customers it was an internal issue, rather than an external attack, which caused the problem.
Westpac spokesman David Lording said the banking group's main website was offline from about 8am yesterday.
The company was building a temporary homepage in the meantime, but reassured customers there was no risk to their personal banking information.
"People trying to access services such as online banking or online broking have had difficulty accessing those services," Mr Lording said.
"Most people who use internet banking have the log-on page as their favourite and that was all fine, internet banking was actually working normally. Approximately 70 per cent of customers were able to access internet banking.
"The problem occurred for those customers accessing internet banking through the internet homepage."
Mr Lording said it was an "internal infrastructure issue" and there was no security problem.
The replacement homepage would be up as soon as possible, he said.
