I think if you want to talk about general chat then go into general chat but the stock forum should be for only stock talk. I think if someone gets out of line they should be given one warning and if they do it again they should get the boot.

Yes, I agree with what you say although I hope I don't have to give anyone the boot! The ASX stock chat board should be soley devoted to stock talk.
I encourage people to post absolutely anything in the General Chat section, including good jokes ;)

Yes, I'm a small time trader. Started back in 1998, got burnt by dot com madness in 2000 and started up again last year.
I've been learning about web design and creating websites and I decided to build this site as a hobby... and who knows, one day it might earn me a few bucks ;)
I've been on Hotcopper for years but lately I've been getting sick and tired of the personal abuse and childish behaviour that goes on there... too much noise.
I want this place to grow and to be enjoyed by all, especially by traders who are at their computers during the day!
At the moment it's new and I'm trying to build up the member base so feel free to refer people to the site! ;)

I'd love for that to happen, the sooner the better.
Right now I need to go out there and get some members to give this place a kick start. I'm spending a bit of money on Adwords with Google to get some visitors and I still post on Hotcopper with the URL in my sig.
So things are building slowly. I'm hoping to add things as we go.

Well SIS gets the brownie points for telling me about this site and well done Joe for starting it.
Just to echo the comments above; I reckon you need some very strong moderating for these forums to succeed. Especially for us Aussies who tend to express ourselves a bit more "robustly" than most nationalities :P
I've seen many share forums sink to acrimonious slanging matches through a lack of a strong moderating hand...and hotcopper has degenerated into an absolute joke.
One american chatroom I use is ruthless with idiots, consequently the evrybody is allways very polite and helpful. This has maintained its popularity for several years.
I trade for my living and will contribute as much as I can here, though my focus is US stocks and futures...I'll see if I can lure some of you over to the nightshift! ;D

This is one of the better boards I visit regularly.
There are too many others that actually promote slanging matches and dramas in order to get their post count up.
I'm not interested. I can read that sort of stuff anywhere if I really wanted to.
It is a pleasant change to see a friendly and informative board.
