Has anyone found a great price on Metastock - and a real one, not pirate?
I assume one purchased outside Australia works fine here.
thanks!

You can buy a download and buy version from Sharework, based in Germany, using the URL below:
http://www.trader-software.com/index.php/cPath/48_38/seid/MetaStock_9.1_EOD/currency/AUD
I bought version 9.0 through them last year. They also mail out the manual and software CD to you after the inital purchase. They are reliable to deal with and it is not pirated software. I was also able to ask them to email the license key prior to sending out the CD.
It pays to have a look around, but the download and buy approach saves any delays in waiting for the manual and CD to arrive.
Cheers.

Hi mhubert
If you would be happy with a charting software package that has most of the bells and whistles of the more expensive options then if you haven't already done so maybe have a look at the Quicken ShareAnalyser site. (http://quicken.com.au/PersonalFinance/OnlineTrading/ShareAnalyser/default.aspx)
The charts I've posted in other threads are from SA if you want to get an idea of what the charts look like.
From memory the software plus 12 months subscription to end of day data is ~$299.00
Hope this helps..

Thanks - sounds good, but it seems that everyone writes add-ins for Metastock, so I'd want to be sure I can have access to those too. (No idea which - just in case!)
Does it run Metastock add-ins?
Does it take data feeds OK?

I would second WayneL's suggestion. If you haven't convinced yourself to go down the MetaStock route.
It would be worthwhile taking advantage of the AmiBroker 30 day trial option to try it out, as it is far more flexible and functional than MetaStock.
To achieve the same level of functionality/flexibility with MetaStock you would need to use something like TradeSim Professional/Enterprise edition in conjunction with it.

mhubert,
Metastock is available from the ASF Investment Shop. :D
I would recomend Wealthlab developer. Its better than Metastock, cheaper and has a trial version. I currently use Metastock and Tradesim but wish I hadnt wasted my money and gone with Wealth lab in the first place. Now I will be swapping over and will have to learn a new program all over again. Dont just go for Metastock straigh off look at some of the others around there are many to choose from and some have already been mentioned. First you need to decide what you want the program for. Just because they build Add ons for Metastock doesnt mean its a good program, why does it need add ons in the first place?

There are quite a lot of add-ins for AmiBroker as well - a number of plugins plus heaps of formula code around.
I've never used Metastock, but I find AmiBroker to be excellent.
