Overseas markets influence on Oz market?

Just hoping someone can enlighten a newbie as to the influence of the overseas markets on the oz market.
I'm hoping some of the better credentialled people who post on ASF can possibly explain what may or may not happen here after news that the dow is up/down overnight and European markets were up/down overnight.
Much appreciated for any wise insights.

Thanks for the reply and link.Can I take it that you are saying there is some correlation between what happens overnight overseas,but not to rely on this for the direction of the ASX market.
