Hello all,

Just wondering if there is a minimum holding period for shares?

eg, if i buy at 11 am can i sell again at say 11:15, or do i have to wait, 12 hours, 24 hours?

You can sell it in a second if it pleases you

You are free to sell as soon as they show up in your holdings account. Normally, that should be as soon as the buy order has been executed. Check on your broker's platform - there should be an option somewhere to view all your current holdings that they sponsor. As long as the shares are there, you can sell them.

The only time there's an issue that I'm aware of is with shares that go ex-div. There's a 45-day rule that may apply if you want to be able to claim the franking credits. Depends on your circumstances though.

I have heard that somewhere else before.

Does anyone know if it is 45 days before, after, 45 before and after (total of 90), or just 45 in total?

45 total. Applicable only if you're claiming > $5000 of divvies for the Financial Year
